Use remote and go into record timer option, clear any timer that is active, that should clear up the "lock out".

HI George,
I'm not real clear as to what your problem is by what you wrote. Do you mean, you tuned the vcr off and then moved it to another location and nowit seems locked up? How does it act in a locked up position. Does the power light comes on, will it not take a tape, does it take a tape and kick the tape back out right away. With a more complete discription of the problem I may be able to better answer your questioon. Please write me or call me at my shop and I'll be glad to help any way I can. Thank you

    Hi George,

I does, in fact, sound as though your machine is locked up. I don't know why that would happen by simply unplugging it and then replugging it in. I also think that maybe, there may be a loose connection on the main board ( called a cold solder joint ), or possibly a weak or bad filter capacitor on the main board. Either of these problems can show up when a unit is unplugged and cools the circuit board down ( the power is always on the main board even if the unit is off ). If you do, in fact have a cold solder joint, the unit would need to be opened and visually inspected to find the loose connection and the resoldered. If the filter capacitor is bad, it would be a bit harder to find and require a test instrument that could check for bad capacitors. And then of course, after finding the bad part, replace it with a good one. I would almost suggest replacing the unit with a new one if you can find a cheap one at , say Wal-Mart or Sams or one of the chain stores ( prices may be less). The cost of the repair may exceed the value of a new unit.

I Hope this has in some way helped

VCR is turning off within seconds of when it's turned on, there is a red rectangle on the screen which does not say anything like it being locked, & a wheel that is continuing to move while it's o

It looks like the red triangle might be an indication that there is a fault. It could be something to with the mechanism. I would take a look inside the unit by taking off the top cover. The unit shuts down to prevent further damage.

Once the VCR is turned on, it turns itself off.

If there is a mechanism fault on the VCR then the VCR will shut itself down. It sounds like the mechanism might be jammed, it's trying to move to the right position, when power is applied but can't so it stops. One thing that might be wrong is the mode switch might be faulty. This will cause all sorts of thing to happen, including putting on the timer record light even when none has been set.

Vcr keeps saying safe

Try this: (actually found in user manual...)

Pro-Tect Plus™ (Child Lock) Feature

This feature is useful to tamper proof your timer recordings from unwanted changes

and/or protect the VCR from mis-operation by other users in the household.

To Lock the VCR

Press and hold POWER or VCR on the remote for

approximately six seconds to turn on the Pro-Tect Plusª

feature.

SAFE appears in the VCR front panel to let you know the

feature is activated.

To Unlock the VCR

Press and hold VCR button on the remote for approximately

six seconds to unlock the VCR.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Perhaps there is some logic problem in the electronics... I'd think this exact kind of defect would be rather rare, obviously not impossible.

I assume from what you are telling me, that the VCR doesn't come on at all when it reaches the set Record on time.

Also, there is often an indicator of some sort which is visible which indicates that a timed record has been set. Does it have one?

If the problem is in the electronics, and not a matter of improper timer setup and related, then a quick trip to an electronics store for a replacement unit is in order. Repair on most electronics, including VCRs is getting pretty economically unfeasible.

Beyond what I've already mentioned, I don't have much in the way of further suggestions. One last thing: I assume a tape is in the VCR, and that this tape doesn't have the record lockout tab missing... doubtful, as many machines would auto eject the tape as safeguard against recording over a "keeper" previously recorded program.

SAFE

Pro-Tect Plus™ Locking Feature
To disable VCR usage or to protect set timer recordings, the unit can be locked so that the
buttons on the VCR or remote control don’t work.
• To Lock: Press and hold either the remote control’s ON•OFF or VCR button until SAFE
appears in the display to indicate Pro-Tect Plus is active. SAFE also appears if the VCR is
turned on while the feature is activated.
To Unlock: Press and hold either the remote control’s ON•OFF or VCR button until SAFE
disappears from the front panel display. Unlocking is the only way to use the VCR.

Proscan vcr plus gold stuck in lock

I just had the same problem and found a solution on the internet that worked. Hopefully you still have the VCR's remote control. Press and hold either the on/off, VCR1 or VCR2 button on the remote. I pressed the VCR1 button and held it for about 5-7 seconds. It released the lock and worked fine afterwards. The lock is some kind of childlock devise.

"SAFE"

Greetings Spock! Although I worked for an authorized rca service depot for 12 years, and worked on many, I can't remember the solution to your problem, and Thompson Consumer Electronics (RCA/GE) don't even accknowledge they ever sold vcr's..I went to RCA.com and your model comes up as "does not exist"...Anyway...I know I've worked on that model, and if you have the book, check the section about parental lock, or Key lock...your RCA could very well be Samsung inside, and if so press and hold the tv/vcr button for 5 seconds and that will release the key lock feature. It is there so if you set the timer, or just don't want the kids messing with it, you can lock all the key functions, and the unit will do nothing except display "safe" Hope this helps...Live long & prosper!

Samsung vr3607 vcr is locked

following is pasted from SV-7000W manual: 1 To lock the VCR, hold down the P/STILL (II) button for approximately five seconds. Result: The lock indicator (LOCK) is displayed. If a cassette is in the VCR when you lock it, the cassette will first be ejected. 2 To unlock the VCR, hold down the P/STILL (II) button again for approximately five seconds. Result: The lock indicator (LOCK) is no longer displayed. If that fails, try the same thing using the play/stop button. Cheers
