Question about Nokia 6230

Nokia 6230 keypad problem

Last night I started experiencing the following:
When I press the star (*) key it displays a 7, the 7,4,1 keys display correct.
This morning I experience:
When I press the star(*) key it displays a 4, the 7 key displays a 4, the 4,1 keys displays correctly.

Now from what I can deduce the only logical next step is that *,7,4 will in the afternoon start to only display 1 ;)

I removed the keypad and pressing the contacts (they are covered in a white material) I get the same result.

Now bare with me, every now and then I get a correct key response, but the result is minimal and the correct key response is very very intermittend.

Anyone have a solution?

I figured as much, I work near the coast and live 50 km from my job in a place much hotter.

About 1 hour after posting this message, the phone stopped with its trouble and is functioning as it was designed to do.

Another probable cause was my 1 year old son, he probably thought it would make a lovely chew toy.

When I press the central pad I get the message "now press*

This is to unlock the keypad ..press the central pad then press * to unlock the keypad.According to Nokia support the method used to activate a Nokia keypad unlock and lock mechanism while in stand-by mode is first to press the center scroll key, known as the 'navi key' followed by pushing the star key. This will either secure the keypad or render it usable depending on the previous state it was in.It is also possible to have it so after a certain period of time the keypad will automatically lock. To deactivate this feature follow the steps below:

1. First press the menu key2. Select the option 'settings'3. You will then need to select one of either Phone, Phone Settings or Device depending on the Nokia device owned.4. Choose Automatic Keyguard and select 'OFF'
