Question about ASUS WL-330 802.11b Wireless Access Point

1 Answer

I am looking for the software that came with the WL330 (not WL330g) which selects an SSID and sets up passwords so that I can move my WL330 to a new laptop.

Cannot get the internet to work

That means you probably don't have the password or the Authentication Type set correctly.

For Windows XP below:
Click Start/Control Panel/Network Connections then Right Click on the Wireless Network Connection and select Properties. When the Properties window open click the Wireless Networks tab. Click on the SSID for your wireless network that you connect to and the Properties window will open. You can change the Authentication Type to match the type set in your wireless router and you can also change your password or Network Key to make sure you have it in correctly.

For Windows Vista below:

Click Start/Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center then look to the left of the open window and click Manage Wireless Networks. Find the SSID of the network that you connect to and double click it. When the window opens click the Security tab to change the Security Type (which is the Authentication), The Encryption Type and the Network Security Key (which is the password).

For Windows 7 below:
Click Start/Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Center then look to the left and select Manage Wireless Networks. Find the SSID of the network that you connect to and double click it. When the window opens click the Security tab to change the Security Type (which is the Authentication), The Encryption Type and the Network Security Key (which is the password).

Had to reset router, now i can't find my ssid name and it's unsecure.

Well, on a computer with an Ethernet connection, go to Start > Run and in the Run window type in CMD (in Vista and Win 7 just type CMD into the search bar). In the command prompt type Ipconfig /all and press enter, you're looking for your default gateway (that is your router) right down that IP address. Now open up internet explorer and type that IP address into the browser bar. This will bring up the login window for your router. Your username will be blank (since you reset it), but you'll have a password of admin type that in and hit enter. Now you are in the setup of your router. Click on the Wireless tab, set Wireless Network Mode to Mixed, make up an SSID (this will be the name of your network), make sure your Channel is set to 6, and you can also turn off SSID broadcast (if you do that, people will need to know the exact name of your network, or your SSID rather, in order to connect to it). The choice is yours. Anyhow, now select Save Settings at the bottom. Now click on the Wireless Security tab. Select your security settings (I strongly suggest you use WPA2 Personal) turn WPA Algorithims to TKIP+AES. Enter a WPA Shared Key (this is your passwrod for wireless devices to connect to your network) you should probably make it complicated and then write it down along with your SSID name if you turned off SSID Broadcast and save the paper somewhere safe. Leave the Group Key Renewal at 3600sec. Select Save Settings at the bottom of the page. In the Administration Tab you can set up a password for your router so it is no longer the default password of admin that everyone knows. Up to you, but if you do set a password make sure you write it down on the piece of paper with your SSID and Shared Key and store it somewhere safe and press Save Settings at the bottom of the screen. You will then be prompted with the login window again and now you must enter your new password. Once all of that is done, close the window. Now you have to go to your Wireless computers/devices and set them up with your new login information, if you did not disable SSID Broadcast then simply look for the name of your network and enter your Preshared Key and then you will connect. If you did disable it then you need to set up a new wireless connection that will be named the same name as the SSID you entered in your router, it will have WPA security (pick TKIP or AES) and you will have to enter the Preshared Key and you will connect.
Hope this helps!

Access point configuration

Access is easy to configure, you just need to understand basic setup you need to do and just have to find the same options on the configuration page of any wireless access point.

Things to setup.
1. Local IP Address ( You will get default 192.168.1.1 according to your device guide, still you can set different (not recommended, if not expert) )

2. Setup WAN IP-This could be dial up connection (PPPOE) or Internet IP Address provided by your internet provider.

3. Setup Wireless access point SSID, this is what you will find when you scan for wireless connection available

4. Setup security settings. You can setup WPA or WAP to protect security. Just need to select and assign key/password which you will be asked while connecting SSID

I have a new laptop and installed the driver for my lexmark z2420 from the web. I don't have the original disk where it setup the WPA security password for my wireless network at home. I don't see that...

Go back to Lexmark's web-site, and look for "other" software for your printer.

Or, from the controls on the printer, you should be able to select "encryption" and then "WPA", and then select your network's SSID, and then enter the password.
