It sounds like hardware malfunction for sure, did you try calling back the help line to see if they had any other suggestions? Ask for a supervisor if you have to, but it sounds like the hardware is actually failing, nothing to do with the hard drive. The low level person you spoke to probably only knew that one thing to try for troubleshooting regardless of the real problem.

I would ask for a higher level person, I am going to continue to research this for you but it is definitely a very bad sign. It sounds like the unit is failing for sure.

My humax pvr 9300t is affecting my programmes and switching itself on and off every few minutes

Try switching it off at the mains for a few minutes.

If that doesn't fix it, I suspect that the disk is faulty or corrupted.

Have to turn off the pvr then on again every time the tv is turned on due to ''no signal'' being displayed though aerial works fine. The pvr does a scan each time and gives the option of a full channel...

I think the problem lies with what input you have selected on your tv. On your (tv) remote control there should be either a circle or square with an arrow on through it. With your pvr already switched on, turn your tv off then on again. When it says no signal, press the button on your tv remote I've described until you see a picture.
