Im not sure if there is such a thing as a public ip adress. The ip address is automatically given out by your router. (192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.101 ect.)

I need to know how to complete my setup I got as far as the setting screen where they ask u your IP address etc. Now I can't get in to complete the set up. What do put in those blanks that ask for you

If you are in the Router setup, (and not a PC setup,) then that would only apply if you had a "Static" Public IP address, (this is an address that never changes, vs. 'Dynamic' ones that do change.) Usually only a business would have 'static' Public IP addresses, and the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) charge extra for them.

Without knowing more about the make/model Router you have, it would be difficult to give you further instructions, but look for settings that would assign the IP address 'automtically'

I need to assign public ip to my pc onlyhow to set up this on the router

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Then click on WAN settings and configure your router as static ip then enter ip address and dns server of internet service provider. then apply if you want ip from router enable DHCP Then click on wireless settings then turn on wifi set SSID . If you want secure wifi then in wireless security enable WEP enter WEP code it is your password for connect wi fi. Then save settings and restart router. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Router will not route to another router of same type

The hughes modem is not a router.
What are you trying to do? Install the Linksys?

Plug the ethernet port on the Hugnes to the "Internet" or "WAN" port of the Linksys.

Then if you go into the config of the Linksys, you can tell if it gets a public IP address.

Router will not concet to the internet

I might need more info to answer this but here I go. Make sure that you have everything powered on. Connect a cable directly to the router and type in its default web management address. Linksys its 192.168.1.1 user blank password is admin, Login. Once you are in you can set it up to obtain automatically from the ISP it's (router's) IP address. if you are DSL you will need to choose the PPPoe solution and enter in your credentials ie email address and password for email as your login. Next setup the internal network as static, where you will define the addresses for your network to obtain. Choose 192.168.1.100 as the starting host address and limit you available address to like 4-6 IP addresses for security sake. You subnet mask will be 255.255.255.0 Once your range has been defined and setting saved. I suggest you change the web management password to something the public doesn't know. Also if you have wireless clients use WPA2 encryption/Authentication and MAC address filtering for only your wireless NIC cards in your PCs. I hope this helps and if you have any questions, contact me.

Thank you

N.A.T Settings

So you want the public IP address that your Netopia router is getting to do a 1 to 1 NAT to the private IP address 192.168.1.136? Basically you want to bypass any of the firewall restrictions of the router?

The caveat with this configuration is that if you don't have any other public IP addresses for the actual Netopia router to use then all other devices on your network will now longer be able to access the internet through the router. Only if you have a public IP address that you can assign the router will it be able provide NAT and internet access to the rest of your network.

The 192.168.1.0 network is not routable on the public network. You need your entire network to NAT through your router using a public IP address.

You configuration will work if the Netopia router will allow a 1 to 1 NAT to another node on the network and allow NAT'ing for the rest of your private network concurrently. Of course you need at least (2) public IP addresses in the same subnet as well.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need better clarification.

LINKSYS ROUTER

You need to know the ip address of your dvr. It might have a factory set ip address or a dynamic ip address from the router. You can then use this ip address to access your dvr.

If your dvr has a static ip, that static ip should be in the same range as the router's ip address so that the router can communicate with the dvr.

Multiple WAN IP Addresses with a Linksys Router

Yes, however we recommend using the following procedure is the only way you can do so without a block of IP addresses. The example below is for instances where you have multiple public IP addresses that are not in block form. For our example the ISP has given us 3 Public IP addresses. One goes to the FTP server, Web Server, and the Router. You can setup the router for whomever your ISP is. If you have a dynamic IP address and you're unsure on the setup, please see the article on setting up the router with a static IP address. If you have a static IP address please our article on setting up static IP addresses with the router, and it will describe how to setup the router with a static IP address. Once the router is setup, it will provide the 3 PC's (In our example) with internet access. The remaining two public IP addresses should be assigned to the WEB Server and the FTP server. Note - The Web and FTP servers will not be on the Local Area Network of PC-1, PC-2, and PC.
