You can call Singer at 1-800-4singer and order from them, or go to www.sewingpartsonline.com and order one for $3.99. Myself, I would take a prescription medicine bottle cap and cut a hole in it for free, it would do the same thing.

How to thread singer model #AJ953185 sewing machine

To thread the upper thread of the sewing machine, place your spool on the spool holder. Then work from right to left after turning the hand wheel to bring the take-up lever to its highest point. Bring the thread to the left to the first thread guide and then go down. Bring the thread down and between the thread tension discs (down on the right and up on the left). Hold the spool tightly and pull the thread against the take up spring until the thread enters the retaining fork (at about 11 o'clock on a 12-hour clock) at the thread disc area. Pass the thread from right to left through the hole in the take-up lever. Bring the thread down through the guide on the face plate and then through the guides at the needle bar bushing and needle clamp. Put the thread through the eye of the needle (again from right to left).

AJ953185 is the serial number of the machine. It should be a model Singer 201 built after Nov. 6 1950. Most Singer manuals are available here: http://www.singerco.com/support/instruction-manuals . The direct link to the manual to the 201 is http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/651_201.pdf . For a picture of the upper threading diagram see page 11 (page 12 of the PDF). The bobbin threading pattern is on pages 14-15 (pages 15-16 of the PDF).

I hope this helps.

Where can I get the piece that holds the thread on the spool? It is a "must have"!

I think you mean the thread spindle ? Or spool holder ? Does yours have a cap that prevents the spool from popping off ? Or is it just the spindle that's missing ? Either way, you may be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer, or try Ebay, where there are all kinds of machine parts for sale.

Helps if you include the make and model of the machine you are asking about in questions like this.

I have a singer featherweight 11 117 model and the spool pin snapped. Where can I get a replacement?

First of all, it's likely at this point that you think your machine is unusable without it, but you're wrong. I have four Singer high-end sewing and embroidery machines, and it has been years since I used their spool pins.

Simply put a coffee cup or--my favorite--a lidless pint Mason Jar at the back of your sewing machine towards the right (away from the fabric side), bend the thread (don't wind the thread) around the remains of the spool pin to use it as a thread guide, and then thread the way you usually do, and you are in business!

Now, to address the replacement issue, there are several places where you can order a new one. Do a search on eBay for "Singer Featherweight Spool Pin" and a number of listings will come up. Don't put in your model number in the search box. If you see that a dealer is featuring one for a Featherweight, but not for your model, don't hesitate to use the "Ask a Question" option in a listing; these are generally quite knowledgeable dealers who can order one for you. Also Jenny's Sewing Studio and Sewing Parts Online either have them in stock or can order them for you. It appears that they are quite inexpensive too!

Singer 2517c -I need Threading instructions please. Also the top thread is loose -how do I fix that

Lift the needle to the highest point by turning the handwheel. Lift the pressure foot to release the tension on the system. Place the spool on the spool pin and put the spool cap on to hold the spool firmly.

Next bring the thread to the thread guide and snap it into the guide. Then slide the thread under the guide and through the slot (use one hand). Next lead the thread down on the right of the tension knob and up on the left. This puts the thread in the tension discs. Next slip the thread into the take up lever. (Bring the thread to the top of the lever and back towards the machine. Then slide the thread into the slot on the take up lever and then back towards you.

Next lead the thread through the next pair of guides. One is on the machine below the take up lever; the other is attached to the needle holder.

Finally thread the needles from front to back.

First check if there is a slight drag on the upper thread when you pull it through the machine (pulling it under the foot of the machine). Move the tension knob to the right to increase the tension. When you stitch a test piece, your top thread is visible on the bottom of your sewing thread, rotate the tension knob to the right by half a turn (get the dot closer to a higher number).

If there is no change in the tension as you turn the knob, take the machine for service. The springs in the tension system may need to be replaced.

The manual is available from Singer here: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html . Enter only the 2517 model (leave off the c). A pdf is available for free; there is also an option to order a hard copy. A picture of the threading route is on page 28 of the pdf (page 26 as the manual is numbered).

I hope this helps.

I have a Singer 2732. I did not use for a couple years and I do not have the manual. The thread will NOT stay on the Arm. It will sew for a bit and then it falls off. I am wondering if I am threading it...

http://www.singerco.com/resources/threading.html, this will tell you how to thread. I am thinking that you do not have the cap that you put over the thread spool to stop it from falling off. Until you can get one, how about taking the top of an empty pill bottle and making a hole in the center and sliding it on the spool pin. Then call Singer at 1-800-4singer and order the real thing, you can also ask them questions on operating the machine. It looks like they do not have a manual for your model for free, it is $15.

How do I thread the machine

Raise the presser foot.

Place the thread spool on the spool pin so the thread feeds from the back of the spool.

Place spool cap against the thread spool.

Take the thread across to the first guide, then down the first slot, back up the next to catch the uptake lever, then down to the needle.

At the top of the needle there should be a metal "hook" that helps hold the thread close to the needle.

I found a download for the manual at this site for $5.00 - http://www.mastersewusa.com/infos_132Q_Featherweight.html

1. Push in indent (illustration 1) on hand wheel disc. This will stop the needle from moving.
2. Place spool of thread on spool pin.
3. Slide spool pin holder/cap (illustration 2) firmly over rim of spool to prevent thread from tangling.

4. Lead thread passing it first through the lower slot of the thread guide. Next through the upper slot, leading the thread to the right and around (illustration 3).
5. Wind thread clockwise around front of bobbin winder tension disc (illustration 4).
7. Pass thread end, from inside, through small hole in rim of bobbin.
8. Holding thread end, step on speed controller to run machine until desired amount of thread is wound. (Winding stops automatically once bobbin is full.)
9. Cut thread; push bobbin to the left and remove it from bobbin winder pin.
10. Trim thread end from top of bobbin.
11. Press the bobbin winding indent on hand wheel to its original position. If necessary, turn hand wheel to engage needle movement.

I dont know how to thread the singer 2517c sewing machine

all machines thread the same. TTN tension, take up, needle.
Beginning with the spool, guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever, then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way.( If you load your bobbin case from the left side, the needle rule is normally FLAT to the RIGHT is RIGHT. There are some exceptions. If you have a newer style drop in bobbin or your bobbin case loads in the front then the rule is FLAT to the BACK.
