Instructions

  1. 1

    Turn off your computer.

  2. 2

Unplug the power supply, remove your laptop batter, and wait at least 30 minutes before returning the battery and power chord to the laptop. As explained by Trouble Fixers, a cache of data from your USB device is stored on the motherboard. This cache is not completely erased until the motherboard fully discharges following power-down. Once the cache is cleared, most USB errors will be fixed.

  3. 3

    Turn on your laptop computer.

  4. 4

Try to use the malfunctioning USB port. In most cases, simply turning off and unplugging the laptop will help remedy the problem. If a problem persists, continue with Step 5.

  5. 5

    Click on the "Start Menu."

  6. 6

Click to open the "Control Panel."

  7. 7

    Click on "System and Maintenance."

  8. 8

Click on the "Device Manager." A new window will open that lists all hardware and external devices currently installed on your laptop computer.

  9. 9

Scroll the list until you notice the heading "USB Root Hub." Click on this option.

  10. 10

Select the USB port that reads "Unknown Device." All other, functioning USB ports should say "unused port" or list a specific external USB device.

  11. 11

Right-click on the Unknown Device port and then select "Update Driver." According to the tech-help website, Amit Bhawani, this will trigger an automatic update of the USB drivers. If no new drivers are found, the old driver will also refresh and repair. In many cases, a malfunctioning port is simply caused by outdated driver software. With the latest drivers, your port can be used with current USB devices without any problems. If problems do reoccur, then the port may be physically damaged and you'll need to take the laptop computer to a computer repair technician to get a new USB port installed

My laptop mouse wont move after i log in it freezes. Everything else works fine. and if i plug in a usb mouse it works but the actually laptop mouse doesnt how do i fix it.?

Hi there,

Do uninstalling the mouse driver of your laptop, restart the unit and let it detect the mouse. When it detect re-install the driver, you may need the driver support cd for this.

Also make sure that there was no virus or any system like error happen on your laptop. Viruses can also cause of this problem and may result for your hardware not to function properly. When your unit boots up to slow this is an indications that there was an error on your system and it needs to be scan for any virus, or better yet you may reinstall again new windows system.

Hope this info/idea helps, kindly let me know for further assistance.

Thank you for using fixya.

My mouse Logitech Laser was working perfectly yesterday. This morning it doesn't. But the keyboard is fine. What do i do?I turned computer on off several time, i unplugged the USB that didn;t help

Remove the mouse from your computer and plug it back again and then power on your computer. If your mouse is usb then remove it and then power on your computer. Once your in the operating system enviroment, plug your usb mouse to get it detected by your computer. But if the mouse is detected and still it is not working then probably your mouse is defective. Bring it back to the store where you bought it and claim the mouse warranty. They will replace your mouse. Hope this could help you. Please don't forget to rate me..:-) Thanks..

Ibm t42 thinkpad turned off touchpad in system tray

Any idea why the USB mouse isn't detected? Is it a Special series of mouse needing software?
Does the laptop have a PS/2 connector, so you can try using an old PS/2 mouse and try with that?

Maybe with some short-keys (like Alt-Esc for the windows Start button), you can reach the software or config application that you used to disable the mousepad...

Try that one, and see if it helps you...

USB mouse...(Razor)

I would check to see if, in your bios settings, that Legacy USB mouse detection is enabled.. That is usually a cause for this problem if it is not enabled....

Also, make sure the drivers you are using are for the right Operating System (ie, Vista, XP Home, XP Pro, etc...)...
