Can you get it out of sleep mode? if so then change your power settings.... you may also be in a mode that the monitor cant support try going into safemode to see if stays on ... if it does it could be two things..... the res is Too high or there is a program that is making it go to sleep......if you have anymore information or would like more help reply here or e-mail me at fixya@whypayforhelp.org

Plug the monitor into another computer to determine if the monitor is damaged or working properly. You can also plug another monitor into your computer to determine the same thing.

Dell 4700 sleep on bootup

ok here's what i can suggest. Two things.
1. Check your power settings by going to the Control Panel and then going to Power Options. Take a look at the power schemes..specifically the option where it says turn of monitor...you can select the "Always On" power scheme....if this doesn't do it...
2. Right click on your desktop and click on Properties. Go to the Screen Savers and verify that the time before the screensaver comes on is not something ridiculous like 1 minute. You can just disable the screensaver if you'd like by selecting "none"..

I'm pretty sure you're dealing with one of those two problems.

Monitor keep going into "sleep" mode

Check the power setting in control panel of windows. If you have a monitor from another computer swap them and see if the problem stays with the computer or monitor.

According to Dell's list of light codes (available here), this means "memory failed to be sized or enabled". In other words, it's a memory issue. Dell suggests reseating the memory modules. I would recommend removing the modules, make sure the contacts are clean (use a pencil eraser to gently clean them if they aren't), and use compressed air (available in cans at office supply places) to blow any dust and dirt from the module connectors on the system board. Then reseat the modules, making sure they latch properly into place.

If the problem continues, you might have a bad module. Sometimes they act up intermittently. Or it could be a symptom of a developing motherboard problem. Try cleaning and reseating the memory first as that's pretty common.

Hi from your description of the problem it sounds like the display settings on your computer are set wrongly for this monitor, i.e. 1280x800. If this is the case you need to change the settings, Obviously you cant do this with this monitor in ordinary boot but you can using F8 and safe mode, control panel, display settings, change to the ones that match this monitor. Is this a Dell monitor that came with your system? if so and you need info for it heres a link that may help.

I hope this helps, if not let me know. Thanks

You can either try to reset the BIOS, or have the restore cd fix it for you. By the way, what does the message say?

Upgrading Graphics Card

So your dell only has a AGP slot.

You need a AGP card

On nvidia side you can get
The geforce 6000 - series
Geforce 7000 series

On Ati side you can get
Radeon x1000 series
Radeon HD 2000 series
Radeon Hd 3000 series

Remember they have to be AGP
