Question about Mitsubishi WS-65809 65" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Thanks a bunch for the information on teh STK392-570. No, I am not a technician, but a simple rocket sientist for NASA. How much are we talking to get a tech to do the job? Is it really that hard? I have done some electronics board soldering in the past. I probably don't have the testing equipment for finding fuses or resistors that may have failed also. Could I at least R&R these two ICs and see if that fixes the problem? From the previous info. it appears that simply re-soldering them to the board was the fix. Do they actually need to be replaced? Or simply re-soldered back to the board? Thanks again. You have been very helpful. Edog

To prove the ICs need resoldering just tap the heat sinks with the handle of a screw driver if the convergance gets corrected as you tap then yes resolder if not then replace the ICs. you need an OHM meter to test the resistors you also need to know there values as they are tested. If I were to do the job I would charge $250.00 labor plus parts. call around ask the techs in you area what they charge for the repair.

I got a free WS-55819 tv because overtime the red fades to the left and causes a 3-D effect but if I tap the top of the unit it comes right back. I have tried to aline the colors but the red will only move...

I am the right person for you to talk to. I know these sets very well--ws-55819 uses two of the STK-392-570 convergence chips.

What I have seen happen in dozens of these is one of the chips develops internal connection problems--resoldering the pins on the bottom of the board will not fix this.

If the set is working you can get a pair of the chips and almost everything else to do this repair for about 30 dollars total.

I have fixed hundreds of these sets with this kind of problem.

The instructions tell you everything you will need and how to do the repair from start to finish.

This is a HD set and cost a lot of money when new--if you want the instructions and where to get the parts let me know. I am here to help--by the way--do not burn pressed wood--it contains nasty chemicals like formaldehyde.

If this information has helped you and you want the information rate this solution as I do this here for free.

After replacing lamp tv cuts off immediately after being turned on

When the set shuts off, there should be some indications on the front such as teh lamp or temp indicators. Are any of those lit or flashing? Recheck to make sure that all access doors are completely closed. There are interlocks that will shutdown the set built in so that if the doors are not closed, the set will shut down.

For further information, please provide us with the model number so we can supply details specific to your set.

Why does my d56w20 link 3 times with a humming noise

3 Blinks is just saying that there is a problem , and the fault is often concerning teh deflection circuit. The pcb is located behind the back panel, on the bottom left hand side, the firt thing the technician will do is looking for leaky or bulged capacitors in there, checking horizontal and vertical output and testing the the resistors on the deflection circuit.

I had the greenish tint problem and the service technician came out and replced the optical box for free under the sony extended warrantee. The technician exlained that the optical box design gets too hot and destroys teh first LCD screen nearest the bulb (green). The new optical blocks have a filter lense placed in front of the green LCD screen to try to cut back some of the heat so it doesn't happen again.  After he left, we started getting the intermittent porblem of the set shuttng down after 2 seconds of picture and the red light flashies four times.  For a few weeks, it would eventally come back on if tried a few more times, but last week it just wouldn't comeon anymore.  I called the technician and he said that the sets that had the optical box problem, oftern had this problem because the excess heat warped the door on the light. there is a little plastic pin on the door near the screw that goes into a whole in the set and triggers a micro switch, which is intended to make sure the light doesn't comeon if the door is not completely closed. When the door warps just a ittle, the pin does not engage the micro-switch enough and the set thinks the door is not installed.  I opened the door and closed it again, making sure it was firmly seated and teh screw was tight.  the set started right up like normal.  He said he has ordered a new door and will drop by and put it on when it comes in.....also complete;ly covered by the Sony extended warrantee for teh optical box problem.  Hope this helps.  The set has a better picture than any other projection TV I have seen....when it works. I am still glad I bought a Sony because they have stepped up and taken responsibility for this obvious design flaw on a $4K TV.  What amazed me is all the postings I read where people have no idea why this is happening. My technicain said he changes a couple of optical blocks a week and knew immediately that the warped door was the four red light problem. He has changed so many, that he said his first time it took almost 3 hours ( all the guts of the set have to come out to get the optical box out...not something i would recommend for the amateur), but now he does it in 45 minutes.....which I witnessed. He also took the time to vacuum out allthe inside of the set when he had it all apart. Loquatius
