THE MECHANICAL PART OF THE ICE MAKER DOESN'T WORK. THE MACHINE RELEASES WATER & ICE(WHEN FULL), BUT THE ICE TRAY UNIT REMAINS FROZEN

This is a common problem with the KitchenAid.
The auger motor and coupling in the rear may be frozen and won't turn.
Remove the ice bin.
Place a screwdriver or similar device in the forks of the auger and twist counterclockwise till it moves. The replace the ice bin and try again.
It will be difficult to move.
If that does not work. Turn off the fridge and use a hair dryer to hrat the auger gear and motor till it frees up.

Ice maker not getting water on new refrigerator


Check if the unit has a cold water dispenser that it will fill a cup. If so than problem is with Ice Maker. If not than problem is with water supply to unit.
If water to machine works make sure that the arm on the ice maker is in the down position. If it is up it will disable the ice making unit. Cycle the am a few times to insure that the switch connected to the arm has not gotten stuck in the off position.

On some ice makers there is a separate switch to disable the Ice maker usually right on the ice-maker not easily missed.

It is possible that the water feed tube into the Ice Maker has become frozen where it enters into the back of the freezer at the top. You can look through to see where the water fills into the cube tray. If ice is present it would be an indication that the feed tube has become frozen If suspected the safest way to fix would be to turn off the unit and allow for a manual defrost.

Next check the operation of the ice maker. Locate the arm in the up position prohibiting the ice maker from cycling. Wait three hours or more. Open freezer door and return the arm into the down position. After a few minutes you should observe the ice fingers rotating to release the cubes into the tray. If the fingers do not rotate I would suspect the ice maker or the connecting electrical circuit. Remember after dropping the arm the Ice Maker has to warm up to melt the ice cubes from the tray before the fingers are told to rotate,

If the fingers rotate then I would expect that the water supply solenoid has failed inside of the unit near to the location the the water supply is made. Replacing this part needs to be done by a qualified experienced technician.

I have a samsung and water is filling the ice tray and it freezes but its not dumping the ice then its putting water on top of frozen ice in tray. I have replaced the entire icemaker assembly and water...


Ice Maker Is Frozen Up This ice maker repair is even easier. If your ice maker has frozen up, take the following steps to thaw it out:

1Unplug the refrigerator.Remove the ice bin from the refrigerator and remove any loose ice from the ice maker.

2Find the fill tube.This is awhite rubber-like hose that delivers water to the ice maker. Pull down the small metal clip off the housing that holds the fill tube (though not all ice makers have this clip).

3Warm the hoseand surrounding mechanism. To do this, you can train a hair dryer on the ice maker to melt any ice blocking the mechanism. But be very careful (sop up any dripping water with a rag) as electricity and water can present a serious risk of electrical shock. Also, be careful not to melt the plastic parts.

4If you don't want to use a hair dryer,you can soak the supply tubing with hot water, using a turkey baster and catching the overflow in the empty ice maker bin. In some cases, it may be easier to remove the ice maker than to thaw out the fill tube.

On heat release ice makers You will want to check the heating element within the ice maker for continuity and a visual inspection of the board and conductors for burns and seizing, chared marks.
How to Test the Ice Mold Heater There are two types of ice makers, those in which all of the parts can be individually replaced and those in which some of the parts are clustered together into a control module. To determine which model you have remove the outer face plate. If there is knob, pull it off first, then pry off the face plate with a small screwdriver. Modular units have holes in the module's face plate for test probes. If you see several holes, each marked with a letter, it is a modular unit. It is easier to work on this type of unit by first removing the entireicemakerfrom the freezer compartment. The unit is usually mounted to the freezer case by two or more screws. Remove the bottom screws first. While supporting the ice maker, remove the remaining top screws. Unplug the ice maker from the freezer cabinet if you have not already done so. Along the edge nearest the shutoff arm, a pin protrudes through the mounting plate . The arm pin has a spring under the mounting plate. Reduce the tension on the spring by moving the shutoff arm into the "on" position, down, against the ice maker.
Test the heater for resistance using amultitester. Set the multitester to the ohms setting X1. Touch one probe to each of the two terminals (or wires). The reading should be in the range of 60 to 90 ohms. If you get a significantly different reading, such as zero or infinity, then the mold heater is bad and needs to be replaced. Conduct this test with the refrigerator unplugged. Test the moldheaterfor resistance using amultitester. Set the multitester to the ohms setting X1. Place one probe into the hole labeled "H" and the other probe into the hole labeled "L". The multitester should read in the range of 60 to 90 ohms.
Also be sure to check and test water valve with a meter for continuity and voltage..( a full 120 and nothing less) And a visual inspection for any ice build up or blockage in tubing and flow line. Remember u may get a close circuit reading of continuity however it may still be bad in that it may remain constantly closed and water keeps flowing more than suppose to. Hence chunks of ice build up.

I have a lg lsc27914sb frig. My ice maker fills but ice becomes a solid block and will not empty when it goes to dump the tray, thus it refills and water goes everywhere. Is this a value issue on this...


Ice Maker Doesn't Turn Off If your ice maker keeps making ice, even when it is full:
1Lift the bail wireto shut off the ice maker, and remove the ice bin. Then, using a screwdriver if necessary, remove the ice maker, clean it thoroughly, and then reinstall it.
2If the problem persists,consider removing and replace the entire ice maker and valve. With this type of problem, you can have it repaired, but it's often wiser and less expensive in the long run to replace the unit entirely.

Ice maker not working


Is water getting into ice tray? If not, check the water line feeding unit. If that is ok then check the solenoid that controls water flow into tray.

If water is frozen in tray then anomaly is caused by the mechanics of ice maker. If the ice melt mechanism does work the ice will stay stuck in there. Caused by broken heater element in ice maker or a defective thermostat in ice maker that turns the heater element on. Or it could be a defective motor in the cam that sets up the sequence of events.

Easiest fix is to just replace entire unit from ebay for about 40 bucks.

Am i right to your question? Well, Kenmore brand refrigerators often have an ice maker that uses the water supply to create ice inside the freezer compartment. Some models have an ice dispenser on the freezer door for easy access, and others simply create ice and deposit it into a tray inside the freezer. While most ice makers should work well with basic maintenance and care, issues may occasionally arise. One such problem is if the water does not fill the tray to create ice inside the ice maker. Resolving this issue may be possible through some troubleshooting efforts.

1 Remove the ice bin from the freezer.

2 Fill a turkey baster with hot water.

3 Spray hot water from the turkey baster into the tube at the back of the ice maker, which may be frozen or clogged.

4 Repeat spraying water into the tube until the blockage or frost is removed.

5 Replace the ice bin into the unit.

Ice maker does not make ice. Water supply works, but ice machine is dry.


if it is the ice maker in the door, it's a bad ice maker....we do a lot of them

Ice maker not working


Depending on the ice maker style, they typically work off a motor timer. The timer motor rotates to set up the ice making process... starting with letting water into an empty ice mold tray, allowing ample time for that water to freeze and then to rotate that mold so that the cubes fall out into the bin. In conjunction with that process, a small heater is turned on to release the frozen cubes from the tray. The 'ice tray full' lever signals the system to stop making ice so you may want to verify that the lever is down and not causing the ice maker to stop, If that's down then I suggest you monitor the position of the motor gearset underneath an access cover. With power applied, the gears should rotate and cycle thru an ice making process. If it does and ice fails to fall out, your heater may be defective. Hope that helps...
