Hi, if its getting only 1-leg of 220 volts, it won't run at all. This is a fact. What kind of motor do you have and what kind of problems are you having, I may be able to help you with it?
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Wiring a ge motor 220; has three black wires

That's a 3 phase motor(ph3). And probably a 220v/460v? Or a 110v/220v, BIG difference! You'll need to figure out your supply voltage and wire it accordingly. Normally, if 220/460, all 3 black wires are hot legs, and this is probably what you have, because 110v will normally have higher amperage than what you posted. And if the motor runs backwards, switch any leg with 1 other. Hope this helps!

..all the lights go on but it does not work when I hit the start button. It only beeps. Any solutions? Model WED5500XWO

Flip breaker for about 5 minutes. If it still won't work check the outlet and make sure there is 220v. Sometimes if one leg of the power goes out the electronics will run (they are 110v) but the motor and heat don't (they are 220v)

What will prevent my dryer from starting? The controls are working but it seems to have something keeping the tub from taking off!

Pull on the belt...make sure it isn't stretched or broken.RemRemove the belt from the motor pulley and see if the motor will spin. Make sure you have the correct voltage. A 220v dryer requires 2 legs with 110v on each. If MOTOROLA Does Not Spin Check Voltage At motor. There should be a schematic inside the dryer (usually taped near the control panel) this will tell you if the motor is 110 or 220 v. If the motor has sufficient power but won't turn it is probably bad. ( note some 220v motors may have a start capacitor on it...this gives a boost to the electricity to get the motor started...if it goes bad the motor will not start..)

New a.o.smith 2.5 motor. hooked up same as old. my question is should i have power on all three legs?

That is a 220V pump so you should have two "hot" legs and one return leg. Normally the red and black are hots and the return is white.

I do hvac but don't do 3 phase i looked at it and the fan motors come on but the compresser doesn't

At the contactor take your electrical meter and on the incoming power to the contactor check all three legs.
Left leg to middle leg should be 220, middle leg to right leg should be 220. Right leg to left leg should be
220v.

Disconnect compressor wires take meter and go from
compreesor terminal, put one lead on terminal and the other lead to ground ,do this for each leg, if
continuity is present on any of the three legs, the compressor is grounded.

If it checks out ok,check the fuses, if they are ok
replace the capacitor

Motor is hooked up correctly according to directions Green ground, white nutral, red, high speed and black low speed. This motor was the replacement for a cal spa hot tub. The motor does not run on high...

You have 220v running into your motor, the red and the plack are in most cases the same 110v line and what your calling a white netural is a common line. In other words the second half of your 220v line. If your red and black are the two opposing 110v lines that make up your 220v and they are put on the motor and turned on they short aginst each other and blow the breaker. One of your 220v lines should come into your hi -low switch and then split to your high and low on the pump. The other half of your 220v line will go to the common or what your calling nuteral. The difference is a netural completes a 110v circut and a common completes the 220v circut it will take to run the motor. One of the splits will complete the low speed circut and the other will complete the high speed circut. You need to check your voltage comming into the spa, the way the spa is wired (110v-220v), and how the motor is wired (110v-220v). For your spa this will be in your owners manuel or on a scematic inside a panel or door and is quite often a plug you change from one spot to another. On your motor will have a scematic on the back of the motor that will tell you haw to adjust the wireing already in place on the wire board of the motor. This may sound deep but if all your voltages are set the same and your high and low are the same leg of power, this should fix your problem.

It wont heat up

Check to make sure that both legs of the 220V feed are presnt. The motor will run on only one leg. Otherwise, on that model, check the thermal overloads mounted on the heater box, and also check the heating element for continuity.

Outdoor fan motor is not running fast enough?

Check to make sure that you have the correct voltage going to the motor. It sounds like you lost one of your legs of power which would give you 110v instead of 220v. Or it could be in the pc board.

My 38 hdc 024 carrier unit outside will not run

WARNING THIS A DANGEROUS REPAIR DON'T TRY IT UNLESS YOUR QUALIFIED TO WORK ON HIGH VOLTAGE!!
Tip: Never complete a 220v< circuit with your vascular system.
New Unit? wow wheres the installer? kk I'm assuming thats a dead end for some reason. Check for 220v at the compressor relay. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say your not getting the 220v power that you need to operate the unit. Do you have other 220v appliances such as a dryer or stove, if they are working properly that means that both legs of the 220v are making it from the pole to the house. Is the wiring in the breaker panel to the breaker that protects your condenser secure and tight. Are you getting 220v to that breaker? Is the wiring in the disconnect box by the condenser secure and tight? Are you getting 220v there? Is the connections to the compressor relay secure and tight are you getting 220v there. Is the compressor relay closing and are you getting 220v to the compressor? See how this works. Lol, Fun isn't it GL I hope this helped.
