I have major streaks in the black which only appears on the left side of the page. The streaks look to be as if the black is not totally printing in that area. It also looks to have a lack of magenta on the right side which is about 1/8" wide. Thanks for your help!

Re: Xerox Phaser 8400 Streaking
You can go into the trouble shooting menu and do the "eliminate Light stripes" procedure a few times. Then you can do Jet substitution from the same menu. If that does not work then most likely you need a new print head. If you have used non xerox ink sticks that is your most likely cause of the problem. cheaper is not always better

Run Remove Ink Smears from the Troubleshooting menu. Try running the jetfix snippet found on Xerox website under downloads. It sounds like you may have a defective printhead telling it to spit out some magenta ink at the wrong time.
Resolving white, light lines or streaks (eliminate light stripes)
From the printer, print the Troubleshooting Print Quality Pages.
With Troubleshooting highlighted, press the OK button. Scroll to Print Quality Problems by pressing the Up or Down Arrow button. Press OK.
Scroll to Troubleshooting Print Quality Page. Press OK. Evaluate the Light Stripes Test page for missing printhead jets (missing cyan, magenta, yellow or black color bars).
Clean the maintenance unit's wiper blade and empty the waste tray. A dirty maintenance drawer wiper blade can cause white lines and weak or missing printhead jets. Using a clean lint-free cloth or a paper coffee filter, gently clean the blade with a wiping motion across the entire length of the wiper blade.
to fined out what the problem could be you need to open a word doc and sent a blank page to the printer. from this it will show where the problem is in the printer
if u still get streaking it couls be a faulty toner and it may not be the cyan toner either. i would give the fuser unit in the printer a check. if there marks on tthis unit i can cause this problem as well
