Protect means that a problem was dtected and the output amplifier section has been disabled to prevent further damage. The typical failure parts are the output transistors. Expect a parts cost between $15-$40. Add in the local labor rate for the total repair cost.

Hello.. I have Sony MHCEX500 MINI HIFI Component system. There is a problem of PUSH POWER PROTECT. How can I fix it..????

The "PROTECT" and "PUSH POWER" messages will flash alternately when the protective device of the amplifier has been activated because a strong signal was input, or if there is a short-circuit detected. Press the POWER button on the unit to turn off the system, and check the following items after "STANDBY" disappears.

1) Are the + and - speaker cords short-circuited?
2) Are you using only the specified speakers?.
3) Is anything blocking the ventilation holes of the system?

While playing my unit we had a brief power outage. When the power supply returned the " PROTECT PUSH POWER " message comes on. Is there a button that I can push to reset my unit-LBT-X50 .

Hi,
Your sound system may have a circuit breaker.
Check the rear of the sound system for a circuit breaker that has popped out, Then push it back in.
It may be labelled.
  • circuit breaker
  • protect push power
Otherwise unplug your unit from the wall and wait 5min before you plug it back in, then press the power button on the front of your system and your remote control.

I hope this helps

What is "Press Power Protect"?

Hi Lois,
Stereo sytems have a protection circuit that alerts you by displaying "protect" when there is a electrical short circuit detected in the system, the most common short happens in a speaker, try disconnectig the speaker wires of both speakers(all speakers) at the back of the system, then play the CD or cassette player(although you will not hear anything with the speakers disconnected) and see if the unit goes into "protect" mode if the problem is still present then you have an internal short circuit and the system will need to be sent in for service or replaced(depending on age, repair costs). I would not recommend investing more than $80 into repairs. Now, if the unit does not go into "protect mode" then one of the speakers or speaker wires is shorted,be sure you check the conndition of the speaker wires before you replace the speakers, then you can replace the speakers(in a pair) and you should be back up and listening! Good luck and Merry Christmas !

If your handy you gots ta open this thing up and replace the bad capacitor (hint-its the little cylindrical thing thats got burnt smoke on it) on the IC board.  Also, check for a short while your in there.

Sony LBT W5000

According to Page 46 of the LBT-W5000 Operating Instructions:
"The display stars flashing as soon as you plug in the power cord even though you haven't turned on the system (demonstration mode).
Press DISPLAY (for LBT-W5000 / W300 / XB700 / XB500) or DEMO (STANDBY) (for other models) while the system is off. If the system is in the Power Saving mode, press POWER SAVE / DEMO (STANDBY) (for LBT-W5000 / W300 / XB700 / XB500). The demonstration appears automatically the first time you plug in the power cord, or if there is a power outage lasting longer than half a day."
I tested this today, as my LBT-W5000 was in Demonstration Mode. It definitely works. The only catch is (at least on the W5000), and it's a minor one, you have to reset your clock afterwards.

Protect

The protect message indicates that a problem has been detected in the final output stage of the amplifier. The most common failure parts are the output transistors. Plan on a parts cost between $15-$40. Add in the local labor rate for the total repair cost.

Protection displayed and shuts off

The protect message indicates that the output amp section has a problem. Normally this requires the replacement of the output transistors or the output amp pac. Expect the repair cost to be about $20-$60 for parts plus the local labor rate.

Protect

I know I'm finding lots of old posts about this JVC model MX-KB30 "PROTECT" problem but - I FIXED IT!!!! 8-) Daugter had the same difficulty after a series of power outages. Figured it had something to do with the speaker circuit board. Decided to look for a reset on the board itself. Not sure that I found one, basically becuase there was not a perception of a button pressing down, but the "PROTECT" cleared and the sound is coming through the speakers again. The sterio works fine. First - as when working on all electronics - unplug the unit and make sure all static electricity has been discharged before working on it. You will need a small jewlers philips screw driver as well as a mirror for looking down on top of the electrical components. Remove the cover of the sterio surrounding the sides and top of the unit - there are screws on the sides, top and around the edges of the back fo the unit related to this piece. You do not have to remove any other pieces. There will be a circuit board attached to the back center of the unit that has a black cable running to the headphone plug and the speaker connections are also running through this board. If you face the front of the unit, looking at the sound circuit board from the right side, there will be a small black - square looking - voltage regulator (I think that's what it is anyway) that you will see some voltage information and some switch setting pictographs (along with the numbers 1, 2, 3). On top of this black unit (here is where you need the mirror) there is a square hole that looks down inside this unit as well as a round hole that you will see white plastic inside. Using the jewlers screwdriver, carefully press on the white plastic once or twice (I couldn't tell that it had pushed down) particularly becuase I have no clue how sturdy this piece is. With the cover still off the unit, plug it in and make sure the "PROTECT" message has disappeared and the speakers are working again. That's exactly what I did and the darn thing started working again. Maybe I just got lucky, but this is a nice sounding unit and it would be a shame to see folks toss it away for such a simple fix if that is indeed what did it. Enjoy!
