normaly this little seal and washer is enough to keep the smoke in
you must have a unclear flueway. i would remove and clean the baffles in the top of the boiler burner first that make sure i have an updraught in the main flue pipe then try again

these are now a redundant range parts are no longer available and a good thing too as they cost the earth to run. gas ones cost more to run than oil. try "top of the range ltd" for a solution

I have a rayburn - probably 1950s - with the vertical bakelite handles and am not sure whether there should be firebrick at the back of the firebox agains the water jacket.
I had a rayburn once before and thought there were. Can you help please?
