Fan and Light out on GE JVM 1650

I saw your solution for another on the GE JVM 1650. I forgot to unplug the microwave and during a bulb replacement it exploded in my hand. Now the fan and lights do not work. Do you have the replacement controller part on stock? I would be interested in purchasing it.

Excellent! Thank you! I will send you the board for repair. On average, how long does a repair of this take?

I answered this by e-mail to, but it's usually about a week door to door.

Here's another set of tips for others, too:

REMOVING BROKEN BULBS, LAMPS, SOCKETS, BASES

First, be sure the microwave is unplugged.

This is pretty common and can be a pain. It's often tacked in place with hot glue, and sometimes there may have been enough moisture to corrode and seize up.

You could heat it up (hair dryer, maybe?) then use needle nose pliers. Be careful if heating so you don't burn anything.

You may need to put the tips of needle nose pliers inside the broken bulb's socket, gently but firmly force the pliers jaws apart and then rotate the pliers to loosen it.

Another trick is to put a big glob of hot glue on the end of a stick or dowel, then shove it into the broken base and let it cool about 5 minutes, then turn the stick.

I like to put a little WD-40 or rust buster on the threads of the new bulb, too. Grease, Vaseline, cooking oil, or anything like that will work. Just a thin coat.

    Hope that helps!

I have a GE JVM 1870 over the range microwave with the active vent. The interior light is out which is a simply fix. How to I get to it?

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you
  1. Light bulb If your microwave light bulb is not working, perhaps it has blown. The first step is to replace the bulb and power on the microwave. If this does not correct the issue, the next step is to check the socket and wiring to verify if that is the problem.
  2. Light bulb socket & main control board If your microwave light bulb is not working after the installation of a new bulb, check the light socket as well as the wiring to ensure they are properly operating. If these sources are functioning properly, the next step is to check for a faulty control board as a possible root cause to your microwave light bulb malfunction.

GE JVM 1650 Microwave Night Light does not work

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

Sometimes this will also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

In your case, it may just be a shorted dimming diode, a black diode usually located between the light relay and the connector.

(Not to be mistaken for the tinier red-bodied diode on the other side of the relay that protects the relay coil).

If it is shorted, you will have bright lights in both the bright and dim settings.

In case you or someone you know has the tools and experience to desolder and solder small components, the replacement rectifier diode is not critical and can be any of these:

1N4001, 1N4002, 1N4003, 1N4004, 1N4005, 1N4006, 1N4007, NTE116, or NTE125 some of which are available form Radio Shack.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

Ge spacemaker microwave jvm/1650

Mmmm it's so easy,
First disconect the power, take the cover off, moslitly there would be 5 screws and two tab's on the top.
inside on the right hand side the magnetron it's a sylver box measuring about 4 in x 4 in x 5 in. It will have a plasic cover moslitly that would have to be remove first then on the magnetron there is 4 crews and one connector.
It should fall downard after.
If you have a power supply after the secondary , that may also be your problem.

Regards

Bob
