Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

1 Answer

I have the same problem, same machine. The washer will complete the spin cycle if the machine is empty, but when loaded it gives the DC code and shuts off before the final spin>

Most of the time this is a Clutch malfunction. See if this post will help.

Clutch Fix

A no to low cost fix would be to drop out the Clutch Pulley and clean and re-lube One-Way roller clutches. The early series use a upper One-Way Roller clutch bearing ring. I explain in the post how to I.D. you series with the first two digits of your S/N.

If you decide to DIY and need any help post back. Sometimes this site dosen't auto notify me. I may not get notified buyt will check form time to time.

I'm on four other appliance DIY sites Google dh1200s FAV6800AWW and you will find me.

My machine stopped mid cycle and displays the letters dc, flashing. What is happening? thank you

I believe The dc code is due to an "unbalanced" load situation. Is this happening when it tries to spin? I know some washers have switches that sense this. Is this in the wash or spin cycle?

Spin cycle is not completing, code DC appears.

If your FAV6800A or FAV9800A wash tub is banging around in Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle and your Control Board signals a dC or uC error code to the console I feel you have a Clutch malfunction.

I feel the TDS is working as designed with the unblance error code shut down.

See my Clutch Fix post for more info related to dC and uC unbalance errors with the FAV6800A and FAV9800A TL’s and the repair action…….Rich

Washer appears to be going throught the wash cycle but the counter is not counting down and it goes no further than the wash cycle. Just continues to do this the whole time. Model # FAV6800AWW

Here are some handy links if you are going to DIY the fix.

FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

Are there any unbalance error codes to the LED display such as dC or uC?
When the washer stops can you place that wash load to a Spin Only Cycle and let me know if the Spin Only cycle completes. Are there any large tub swings in Spin Only cycle with that wash load that cause the Spin Cycle to stop with error codes dC or uC?

Let me know if you can to do some troubleshooting. It would require front panel removal so we can watch the Motor and verify it will rotate the Clutch Pulley CCW in the Spin Only Cycle. If you want to troubleshoot I will give you additional info to begin the process…….Rich

Maytag neptune FAV6800AWW top load washer gets to 32 minutes left and goes no further. It starts to cycle for about 5 seconds and stops for about 35 seconds... over and over and over

Is the machine in Spin Cycle when this is happening? What part of the washer selected cycle does the Cycle Status LED say the machine cycle is in.
If it’s in the Spin Cycle I think you have a clutch issue. Do you take any error codes to the LED console display such as dC or uC?
If you stop the machine in that cycle and do a Spin Only cycle will it complete?
Do you want to DIY the fix? Let me know and I will try to help…..Rich

ERROR CODE dc keep coming up and machine don't complete the cicle

I have worked with a number of folks on FAV6800AW clutch issues and feel that your problem is related to the clutch. It could be an issue with the Tub Displacement Sensor but because you machine is terminating the spin cycle with a dc error I feel the TDS is working as designed but we can do a quick check. Take a look thru this post and see if you or someone you know has the basic mechanical skills to drop the clutch out of the machine and inspect the upper and lower clutch roller bearings and the clutch spring. If they are not rusted beyond clean up and the clutch spring is not broken you may get yourself back in service with little cost. Post back if you have further questions or need help in troubleshooting your dc errors. This is a quick test to see if the clutch is binding due to roller bearing friction; Lift your lid and with one finger can you rotate the wash basket CCW (counter clock wise) with very little force? I do it with my pinky.

When the clutch malfunctions due to dry or rusted roller bearing or a broken clutch spring the tumblers rotate slowly in spin cycle and toss the clothes around while the wash basket attempts to spin up. The load goes unbalanced, the wash tub starts making exaggerated excursions and the Tub Displacement Sensor signals the control board to try again to redistribute the wash load, I believe the process is 4 or 5 times. After the last try the control board terminates the spin cycle with a dc or UC error. Does this sound familiar? In spin cycle the tumblers will rotate maybe a half turn at the most at the start of the spin cycle and no more as the clutch engages the spinner shaft rotating the wash basket CCW. You do not fail with an empty wash basket because you are not tossing and clothes around while the wash basket is spinning up. You can redistribute the wash load till the cows come home and you will continue to fail with dc or UC errors to the display. Some folks have gotten their spin cycle to complete by loading the wash basket up with a load of wet towels, who wants to that. Read the post I refer you to and the links of folks that have done clutch maintenance or have replaced the clutch as in that post. To have the clutch replaced by a repair service would be in the ball park of $300+. You or someone you know can do this it’s just a tight work area. I will help you thru this if you decide to take on the maintenance.

Dc code appears only when clothes are in washer during spin cycle

Maytag neptune tl washer

A dc error means that the clothing is not being distributed properly in the basket. This usually happens when the machine is lightly loaded. If the load seems o.k. then the problem is probably with the sensor at the side of the basket.

Neptune FAV6800aww Will not go into spin

I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors in the spin cycle, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley hub, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove clutch pulley hub. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley hub and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley hub to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 3.5 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, I found it online and I believe you can order it in PDF format from Maytag. Good luck!
I just went thru my 10th load of a mix of light, medium and heavy loads and all work fine no unbalance errors (DC/UC). Doesn’t fix the tangle problem :) Prior to this fix I could only run the washer with no clothes in it to complete a cycle with no dc/uc error codes.
