Tv converter I have a DVD player that is digital I hook it up with an antenna to the TV and I do get reception but it does not come in clear. I adjust the antenna and just can not get a clear picture. I use a HDMI cable and RCA jacks from DVD player to TV. Would there be a better connection that I can use. I am trying to get rid of my satellite. I do know that this does not have a tuner in it and that is why I have to run it through the DVD player This is a Westinghouse W4207 purchased two Christmas's ago at Best Buy

I purchased the W4207 from Best Buy as well. I previously used direct tv tuner. I recently moved to development that does not allow satellite. However, they offer free cable. Is there a tuner that can be purchased for TV without renting cable converter box?

Its not the tv the tv, the tv is just a monitor the dvd is suspect as the tuner may be ...old, damaged ect. and last the antenna a new ant is not required for hd however you are not saying you want to get hd you want to get rid of your satellite receiver, HDMI is the best signal for video you can use, however the source is the most important thing if it sucks or is not to top quality, like the HDMI circuit then you will get a reduced picture quality. the dvd recorder? is suspect as is the antenna you are using, 75 ohm coax will not produce good results.

TV WAS USED FOR CABLE BUT WANT TO USE IT FOR TV ONLY

Is your TV analog or digital? If analog then it will work with the cable but not with over the air antenna signals. You will need an adapter box between the TV and antenna. Use "digital tv converter" for a search on eBay.

Connecting a sansui 13 inch to a converter box

1) Connect the converter box to a good digital TV antenna and position the antenna as high and as close to a window as possible.
2) Set the converter box 'output switch' to an unused channel for your area. (Usually 2, 3 or 4.)
3) Connect the output of the converter box to the 'antenna input' on the TV.
4) Turn on both units and set the TV channel to the same output channel selected above.
5) Now select TV channels using the converter box remote only. The TV should receive all converted channels on the preselected channel.
6) Adjust the TV antenna for the best reception for all channels.

Need to know how to change and setup for use of antenna

Purchase your UHF/VHF antenna. The antenna can also be purchased at most electronic and retail stores. Consult your list from Step 1 and see how powerfulicon1.png the over-the-air signals are for your specific address. Purchase your antenna based on the broadcasting power you need to receive a clear picture on your TV. You might be able to get away with an indoor antenna if your signal strength is strong enough. If not, you'll need to purchase an outdoor antenna.

  • 4 Install your antenna (or have it done professionally) according to the building codes of your area. If you must use an outdoor antenna, it is a good ideaicon1.png to have the antenna professionally installed. This ensures that it is properly grounded on your roof, not too close to electrical wiring and stable during inclement weather.
  • 5 Hook the converter box up to your television using the cable that came with it (F Cable). Hook your antenna up to the converter Box. Turn on your TV and converter box. Tune your TV to channel 3 and press "Scan" on the digital convert box. Allow the box to scan for your available channels.
  • 6 View your picture and adjust your antenna accordingly for the clearest over-the-air feed. You should only need to make adjustments once. If you are having a difficult time getting a clear picture, use a signal strength indicator to see where you receive the most powerful signal.

Poor reception or unable to receive certain tv channels on sets not connected to dish or cable - what is the solution?

I would assume that your using digital converter boxes for the sets that are not hooked up to cable? Do you have digital antennas? The old analog style will work but reception will not be so good. You can find digital antennas almost any major department stores. The boxes are still available at some locations. Since the broadcasting has gone digital for regular channels, analog tvs will no longer recieve stations with out a digital converter box. I hope this helps.

HOW TO HOOK UP A ANTENNAE

    Hi there,

Well you can follow the below steps -
    1. Inspect the antenna for any signs of damage. Identify and examine the power adapter cord and the coaxial antenna cable for any rips tears or other defects.
    2. Plug the adapter into the antenna's power adapter socket. It will be labeled "12V DC/Adapter". If you are using an antenna that does not require power, such as rabbit ears, you may skip this step.
    3. Next connect the antenna cable to the television using the TV's "Antenna In/75 Ohm" input jack. Make sure the antenna connector is twisted tightly into place. Place the antenna on a sturdy surface such as the top of an entertainment center. If you have an older analog TV that is a non high definition ready/capable display and are using a digital to analog converter box, generally, the antenna will plug into the input of the converter and the output of the converter will plug into the antenna input of your TV.
    4. Plug the antenna's power supply into a 120V AC wall outlet. This will turn the antenna on. If you are using the "rabbit ears" style antenna, make sure that the each section of the antenna is fully extended. This will give you the best reception.
    5. Turn on the TV and check for digital reception. You will know that you are receiving digital signals because the picture will be clear and free of any analog "snow" or other artifacts. Digital TV channels have DVD quality picture and sound.

How to hook up with new converter boxes

This TV has a Digital Tuner built in?

Unless you have some purpose I would use the internal tuner.

Anyway. Use the HDMI input to hook up the Converter and Component (Red, Green and Blue video) to connect the DVD. You can use component for the Converter as well since it is reasonably comparable to HDMI (HDMI is 1080P Component is 1080i but it is difficult/impossible to notice unles picture is 60 or larger)

The digital programming here and I can't get any channels clearly

Well, there is nothing wrong with the TV itself. The signal is too weak to get enough digital information to complete picture and sound.
You may need a better antenna for reception.
    5ae9490.jpg4ae4d0a.jpgc2ce99d.jpg
There are some long range digital antennas and antennas that will receive signals in all directions.
It's the best way I know of to solve the problem.

I have a Westinghouse 26 inch TV. Model # SK-26H590D. It will not scan channel 9. I have tried both the automatic scan and the find channel scan. It is hooked to a Phillips Mant 510 vhf/uhf indoor antenna...

I carried my Westinghouse TV to the basement. Unplugged the antenna from the digital converter box and connected it to my digital TV. I then re-scanned for channels and found channel 9. After carrying the Westinghouse TV back upstairs, I connected the original set-up and tuned to channel 9 which was now showing on the screen as no signal. From that point I moved my VHF dipoles until I had located the correct position for reception. A little labor intensive, but I was fortunate to have another antenna that was receiving channel 9.
