im having the same issue.. soon as it gets to 3x the "Remove Lens Cap" message pops up

  • cycling Jul 07, 2008

The lens cap was off and as soon as the camera was turned on the error msg came on and persists so I can no longer use the camera. I have the exact same camera - DMC-FZ8. I've tried to go through the "reset" steps, re-charging the battery, cleaning the battery points - no success.

I bought the camera in Canada and have now moved to Australia - now I'm getting a run around with Panasonic as I didn't request an "International Warranty" card. The camera was purchased in December 2007.

The cap is off and it still tells me to remove the lens cap. I have tried taking out the battery, wiping off the lens, and tried to unjam the lens and i still can't get it to work

I had the same problem with mine after I dropped my camera when it was opening up after turning on. It feel directly on the lens and ever sense has told be to remove the lens cap.

I’ve disassembled the camera and discovered that the zoom motor drive assembly has a small set of plastic gears inside that are quite fragile and like mine are easily broken. You’ll find the zoom motor after taking the back assembly of the camera off. It’s located on the bottom left side of the lens assembly if you're looking at the camera as if you were taking a shot.

Here’s the part no. from the Panasonic support web site.....

THE LENS UNIT IS PROBALLY JAMMED. IT HAS TO BE REMOVED AND STRIPPED. SOMETIMES DIRT IN LENS OR ZOOM MOTOR WILL CAUSE IT TO JAM. IN MORE SERIOUS CASES, ONE OR MORE OF THE LENS FRAMES MIGHT BE DAMAGED. THIS IS USUALLY CAUSED BY THE LENS BEING FORCED IN WHEN EXTENDED. IF THERE IS ANY DAMAGE PARTS THEY WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

If the lens won't move, it's safe to assume it is jammed. The question is how to fix it.

Dropped my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 in a stream - its dried out & works fine except there's a stain on the inside of the lens. How is this best cleaned? tHX

You cannot clean the inside of the lens. If it must be cleaned, it needs to be disassembled by a Panasonic service center, cleaned, reassembled and re-calibrated, and then returned to you at an enormous cost. You need to determine if it's worth it.

Similar problem -Error message Remove Lens Cap and press button.

After reading di_nick34 solution about removing sand, I removed the lens hood adaptor, and blew air between the gap, re-screw adaptor on. Heard a few clicks - must have broken some minute dust/dirt. Remove hood again, and further blowing. Must have removed the dirt stuck in the gap. Camera now works fine. Hope others with similar problem waill have same success.

Hey guys

If you don't want to pay for the (expensive) repair, then stripping it down and checking that the lens motor, cogs and housing and moving correctly. It's not for the faint-hearted, but it's not really complicated… the Instructable for the FZ5 covers it http://www.instructables.com/id/Repair-Stuck-Lens-on-Panasonic-FZ5/

For some reason my camera keeps comming up with a "REMOVE LENS CAP AND PRESS > BUTTON" error but the lens cap isn't on the camera :(

it sounds like the lens barrel is out out alignment. Possible the barrel was stuck while it was extended. There is a sensor on the lens barrel asemmbly that must be in the correct position after the camera is turned off. If this doesn't happen then you will get this message..at least this is what I have experienced in my repairs on this camera
