Question about GPS

1 Answer

I have a 2006 Honda Civic Ex with Navigation. The Navigation unit now only displays the maps, but will not give directions to anything. Instead of giving directions it freezes when we try to get type in a location to go to. If I look up a location it can find it and tell me how far away it is, but can't tell me how to get there. I just purchased the latest DVD from Navteq. I've been to the dealer and they want $3,8000 to buy a new navigation system!

The Honda dealers claim that they cannot reset the unit. I have been to two different Honda dealers and have the same story from both. I bought the 2010 disk thinking it would solve my problem with the older disk I had. However, now the system will not let me put the old disk back in so I can at least return the 200.00 2010 disk. If there is a way to reset it I would be happy to know about it.

Hmm that is very bad news indeed. Usually that is indicative of the actual GPS locator failing on the unit.

Did the dealer at least try to reset the unit for you? Sounds like a strange experience in general at that dealer... is there another Honda dealer around you can try to go to and tell them you'll be sure to buy your next car from them if they can help you get this fixed. There definitely is a way the dealer can try a full reset on the unit, but it does need to be done at a dealer. Very strange that the one you took it to wouldn't do that (if they didn't, but you made no mention of it so I am assuming they didn't).

Let me know!

Thanks
Tim

Strange, well if two dealers have told you that it's possible the model of GPS you have in there does not allow it, which is very strange. You may want to call 1-800-999-1009 (that's Honda corporate) and ask for someone technical that can help you, give them your VIN number and see if it is true that it can't be reset. To my knowledge there is definitely a reset in there, I am looking for a way to do it but every resource I have just says "it can be reset at the dealership".

Do you think you can return the 2010 software you purchased there? Definitely not going to fix it up, if anything it is possibly failed hardware in the GPS unit... You could always get a 3rd party GPS / multimedia system installed in there for less than a third of what they want for a Honda one (and it would work better) so I definitely would say don't even consider going through a dealer unless they can help you fix it.

I am still researching this for you, I am so sorry about these issues you are having. We will figure something out here!

How do I open my 2009 Honda Accord navigation unit in the trunk?

Look for a small pin hole near the DVD tray, while the system is off, push a paper clip into the hole, just like for a computer, may take a bit of force.

Catalytic Converters, honda civic ex can I fix it instead buying a new one

no but because yours is flanged easy fix get a universal converter gaskets you will need some peices of exhaust take the old unit and the new one to a welding shop have them make you new one the same length as the old one and cut the flanges off the old one and weld to new one all this is probably cheaper than buying a direct fit converter

2007 Honda Civic Navigation Screen went black

Had same problem with 2008 Honda Civic.
Note: you will need anti-theft code so get it first!
Solution:
1. Turn ignition off.
2. Look for fuse box under steering wheel.
3. Remove fuse #35 which is for the Navi-audio unit.
4. Then re-insert the fuse. This will reset the system.
5. Turn ignition on and the Navi-audio on. Buttons WILL be working now.
6. The unit will request for the anti-theft code for Navi-audio system. Enter the 4 digit code....Yippee!
However, I lost all my radio preset stations. Thankfully my saved destinations in navigation system were intact.
