Question about Intermatic T104P 208-277Volt 40-amp Timer Switch-Double Pole / Single Throw

1 Answer

Intermatic T104P. My timer was working fine until I turned the switch off for other pool repairs. Turned the switch back on and the timer seems to be moving but it does not turn on or shut off the pool motor (?) The timer clips are in position.

Try manually switching the switch, via the lever. Sometimes the switch does not fully go to the off position and the timer clips miss catching it.

Why when i just installed a new T104 timer yet seems wont turn on with pins

Are you sure that you put the pins on right? They have little projections on the bottom that turn the timer on/off as the cam moves through its 24 hour rotation. The little gear in the back is connected to the motor and because it is spinning that tells you that the motor is definitely good.

Is timer the problem

I would think whatever is hooked up to the timer is bad. Not the timer itself. Disconnect/unplug the pool pump from the timer and see if the timer trips the breaker.

My pool timer does not turn on at the scheduled time. Clock works fine until it gets to the start time and then seems to hang up and not activate. If manually activated it works fine and turns off on...

Intermatic? Sounds like 120Volt WG1570 clock motor or 240Volt WG1573 clock motor has gotten bad and needs replacement. This would cause tripper to stall, and motor will eventually cause stop.
Copy following links to identify available parts and troubleshoot resources:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-trippers-and-parts.html#T100
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-Intermatic-timer.html
Remove trippers from dial, and operate pump manually until replacement motor arrives. Order extra trippers also, since they are made of soft metal and designed to wear down so timer mechanism will last decades.

Pool pump breaker tripping

1) Not likely the timer is problem, unless there was fire or overheating in timer box. Use nose and eyes to inspect for signs of high heat.

2) Eliminate timer as suspect:
Move wires on timer to test if timer relays have gone bad.
Move terminal 4 to terminal 3
Move terminal 2 to terminal 1
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T104

3) Check watt rating of Hayward pump, and voltage.
1Hp motor at 240Volt draws 8 amp, and can draw 6 to 8 times that amount when starting. Up to 100 feet, should be at least 12 gauge wire and double-pole 20 amp breaker. Over 100 feet, 10 gauge wire and 30 amp double-pole breaker is best.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Color-codewire.html#motor

4) Intermatic T104 240V timer is rated 40 amps
Can safely handle 1 Hp motor without nearing heat-rating capacity of timer

5) Make sure the motor is wired correctly for 240Volts.
If motor is wired for 120, and 240 is applied, then tripped breaker can result.

I have an intermatic model t106m pool timer switch that has stopped keeping the time. I have checked the breakers and find nothing tripped. The swith can still be manually turned on and off. Please...

Open following link for T106 240volt troubleshoot and repair steps.

Timer is probably repairable if manual override clicks crisp and clean and load turns on-off.
If the timer dial is not rotating or not on time, then replace clock motor. WG number is printed on clock motor.
If dial is rotating on time, then replace 156T1978A trippers.

Pool pump cannot be turned off with timer switch. Pump runs constantly. I can turn off with breaker switch but not with switch on timer.

You posted under Intermatic EI200 series countdown timer.

Intermatic EI200 series is rated for 1/4 HP.
Check nameplate on motor for HP. Pool pump is probably 1 HP.

Add a comment and say what kind of timer you are using and say specifically what you want timer to do, and I will locate correct timer for that specific need.

You can also add a contactor to the circuit.
Timer controls contactor, and contactor turns pump on-off.

My opinion is that new pump is defective.

You posted under Intermatic pool timer.
The timer will not have any effect on the new pump overheating.

Insufficient wiring can cause new pump to overheat.
However if wiring is undersized, and/or if both pumps are turned ON at same time, the circuit breaker would get hot and trip.

Instead of the breaker tripping, your new pump is getting hot, and turning off.
Remember, any pump that slows down and overheats is getting damaged.
Replace the defective pump.

Can an Intermatic T104P3 Timer Model be replaced by a Intermatic T104D89 Timer Model.

T104P has plastic box.
Any T104 mechanism will snap into that same plastic box.
So you don't have to change boxes.

If you are buying T104D89 with metal box, the timer mechanism is same as T104P.
Both are 240V and both wire the same.

Once T101 Timer Shuts Off will not turn back on

you have the hot and load reversed. the power source should connect to terminal 1. the wire going on to the pool pump should be hooked to terminal 2.

the clock motor is powered off terminal 1 and A is the neutral.

what u have done is hooked the power source to #2 and the load to #1, simply switch them and everything should be fine, here is a link to the wiring diagram for the timer.
