Make sure your LAN card driver is installed on your computer and it is working properly. Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to your computers LAN port. Open a browser on your computer and enter the Netgear configuration URL http://192.168.0.227
If you have lost your manual you can download one from this WEB site. http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/wg602v3_manual.pdf
You can connect your friends computer easily to the router. Whenever your friends wireless switch has be switched on it wil detect the router and it will ask for the password to connect to the router. Hope you knows the password , by giving the password you can easily connect the system to the router
I think you're saying that you want to set up a Netgear from a wirless port. Is that the ONLY computer you have?
It's not IMPOSSIBLE, but it is improbable. By default, the Netgear has the address 192.168.1.1. If nothing else on your network has that address, it might be possible to plug in the Netgear, set the IP address of your computer to 192.168.1.2-254, and link to 192.168.1.1.
I didn't say easy, just possible. Easy would be to use a computer with a wired ethernet port or grab a friend with a laptop with a wired port. It's a 15-minute job.
This does not seem to be a problem with your router, rather with the network adapter in your laptop.
Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Network adapters.
Click the "+" sign to make it "-".
What is listed? DO you see your wireless network adapter? If you see a yellow "!" or a red "x", that means it is not properly installed. Try to reinstall the driver.
If you need help with that, let me know. In that case I would need to know make and model of your computer.
Also: you don't have to install any software to connect to your router. This software is simply a help to setup the router. You can always type "www.routerlogin.com" in the address bar of your web browser and manage your router from there.

Are you sure you have a PPPoE Modem? Usually these are DSL connections from Phone and Satellite ISP's... But there are also other ISP's that use them, although a very large percentage of ISP's just use DHCP. Try to set the router up using DHCP instead of PPPoE and see if that works... To check if you are on the internet: Start-> Run -> cmd [enter] in the black box: ping google.com [enter]
