Take it back to shop. You stated worked out of box then stopped working so assume brand new. Also contact tomtom support as it was a common problem with tom tom one and under guarantee they replaced mine.
Not sure which model year you have but check for a small reset button on bottom press and hold it with a paper clip or similar. Also try holding the power button for a minute to see if it reboots, try removing the memory card first. If it starts don't insert the memory card until the unit is off. Try first to update the software of your GPS . If that didn't solve the problem and since the button doesn't work I advice you to take it to the service for repairing .
Charge it through the computer using your USB cable for a good 2 hours and try switching it on again. It happened to me and it seemed to work fine after that.
