Question about Tomtom GO 510 GPS Receiver
Tom Tom 720 new user - connected to home dock for 2 hours (not sure if the unit should be on or off???)
Took Tom Tom out for a test naviagate = worked for about 90 minutes - very cool, then battery icon came on the screen, unit shut down. So I plugged in the car charger to the cig lighter and that worked, but it kept shutting down every 3 minutes and asking me if I wanted to connect to the computer when I turned it back on. I'm taking a 5-hour trip tomorrow and I do not know if my Tom Tom is charging, how much battery life is left, and if I have to keep tapping the blessed screen every 3 minutes. HELP! shutting down your Tom Tom Go 510 in 10, 9,8,7,5, seconds "message" on the screen, but it does not shut down, it shows a map for a couple of second and the message appears again
Your rechargeable battery inside has a limited life and has to be replaced when this problem happens.

The shut down' problem is caused by a faulty 'USB' charger socket
Swap out the socket and make sure you resolder ALL 5 terminals and the 4 pcb clamps.
Only attempt this if your skilled enough. A botched repair will not work and cause more even fatal damage to the pcb.
Sorry if I just depressed you but that's what need to be done.
TomTom support lie and tell you its the navcore, NOT
I have carried out this repair myself and it did cure the problem.
