This is not a user-repairable problem. You must either return the product to the manufacturers service centre in your country for repair or must replace the product.

Lens will not extend when turned on message on screen lens error

Hi,

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed due sand, dust or may be due to external shock caused by dropping the device.
  • Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun around lens barrel. It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on this will solve the problem.
  • You can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
  • You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.

If motor is running but lens won't retract sometimes lens would slip off with the gear or break off a tooth in the gear when it gets dropped. Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move once or twice then it will stuck again.

Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

Thanks and have a nice day

When the camera is turned on and the 16-105 DT 3.5-5.6 zoom is attached there is a repeated clicking sound that continues until the camera is turned off. A sony camera salesman indicated it was the lens. ...

I had the same problem with my SAL-16105. It turned out that inside the lens the FOCUS DIFFERENTIAL RING (Artnr.: 321020202) was broken. The camera tries to move the focus from one end to the other when it is turned on (probably to check the functionality), but as the ring is broken, focus will never reach its end-point. Thus the camera continues to try to turn the mechanics futher until either the gear on the lens ring or one of the gears inside the lens will jump, making the clicking sounds. Another reason might be that one of the brushes ("focus brush") inside the lens that are used to signal the position of the focus to the camera electronics is damaged. (This might even lead to the mechanical destruction of the focus differential ring I think). I was able to repair my ring, but as I had to glue it, after a few months it failed again. I'm waiting for a replacement ring now.

Hi, i have the Sigma 70-200mm for Canon EF and the manual focus don't work. The HSM works fine and focuses perfect, but if you choose MF, you can't rotate the focus-ring. Many greetings from Germany! Kai

Hi, not sure if you still have this issue. I have just decided to look into it again, as I had a lot of focus problems with my Sigma 70-200mm HSM lens. Since there is no Sigma support here in Beijing, I took a look - and fixed it.

Here is what I did: On the front of the lens barrel is the rubberised focus ring. This can be removed (gently ply it away from the barrel by sticking a flat bit (or plastic letter opener) between the barrel and the rubber grip. It will come not entirely loose, so you need to work your way around the lens. Keep doing that until you moved it about half way forward. At this point two fixing screws become accessible on the barrel below.

In my case, one of the screws had come loose and that blocked the focus ring from turning, as the screw was blocking rotation in the access hole on the barrel.

Hope this helps others. Simple to fix, if you know how.

Ricoh KR-10 locked focus ring

you can fix this if you have a jeweler's screwdriver ( x- head ).
1-take the lens off the camera.
2-take off the front name plate with a thin knife blade just right of H of RICOH name. gently pry the name plate up till it pops off ( not screwed on ).
3-remove the three screws from the plastic ring, ( large ring ).
4- pull the ring off.
5- where the metal ring touches the plastic lens barrel apply a few drops of light machine oil.
try to move the focus ring back and forth until it's free.
it can be further broken down but then the lens will have to be re-focused. as long as there is no impact damage this will work.
