Is the dvd drive showing up when you open my computer? What operating system are you using? What is the model of your dvd/cd drive? Where did you get the drivers for your dvd drive from? Try uninstalling the dvd driver from the device manager and try reinstalling the driver.

I have a NP770Z7E-S01UB notebook. I can't get BIOS changes to stick so that I can boot from a CD.

Hi
BIOS changes are usually saved using the F10 key or going to the EXIT menu and using SAVE & EXIT. This is detailed on page 99 of the User Guide which you can download from here:-
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201408/20140828134026815/Win8_Manual_eng.pdf
If you use the Esc key to leave the BIOS, your changes will not e saved.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

Dvd/cd rom not recognised

The DVD drive may not be making proper connection. Remove and install the DVD drive and if the DVD drive is not detected in the BIOS the the DVD drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Put in cd and laptop says to put cd in drive. It is not recognising it is there

If other cds are working ensure the cd you are trying to use is scratch and smudge free. If it is a dvd ensure that it is a dvd drive. If you are attempting to use writeable media make sure the type matches your drive, i.e. cd+r is different than cd-r.

Bios replacing

You will need to download the BIOS installation software for DOS if they have one from the motherboard manufacturer and the BIOS file. You will then need to make a bootable dos cd-r disc using windows. Once you have done this you can use the disc to start your computer in DOS mode. Then burn the BIOS DOS SOFTWARE and the BIOS FILE on a cd-r. Then you will be able to run the BIOS software from dos and install the bios file. You could also install windows on a USB hard drive then try to boot from it if your computer can boot from USB and the USB boot device option is still working.

Cd rom recognised as cd audio

They will definately need drivers to be able to give out 100% of the performance.
You definately might have receive a disk while purchased the CD/DVD ROM.
Try that driver once and see the difference.

Cant get DVD's to play

Try cleaning off the laser of the dvd drive with a damp q-tip. This will make sure there is no specs of dust or dirt on the laser.

If it sill plays cd's but not dvd's then that means the laser is bad cause it takes more power from the laser to read dvds cause there is more information that needs to be verfied.

So if the laser is bad that means the drive you bought was defective. Try a bunch of different dvds to be sure you don't have any that are bad.

If your getting it with any dvd your putting in there then you know you need to get another drive.

Cd/dvd driver

Does the drive it self come up.
Lightly push on the side of the drive tray.
Works for me.
To re-install the drive.
1. Turn off the laptop.
2. Press the power button quickly then relese as this tells the laptop to detect the drives.

Not recognized

Go into your BIOS and see if you can get it to autodetect the drive. You should be able to this but I can't tell you how to because all BIOS setups are different.

Then save your BIOS and reboot.

The drive should then be recognised as the right thing.

Hope this helps

DVD/CD-ROM not recognised

I can't find much information on this model from the web-site, so I'll make a few generic guesses. http://www.benq.us/support/downloads/downloads.cfm?product=598 Can you see the DVD drive in the Device Manager? To access the Device Manager, right click on My Computer and select Manage. Select Device Manager from the Computer Management window. Do you see the optical drive under DVD/CD-ROM drives? If you do, then try putting a different CD or DVD in the drive. If you do not, then try shutting the laptop off, ejecting the drive from the laptop and then re-seating it in the laptop. This of course will only work if the drive is modular, which most laptops in the last few years have. Power the laptop back on and check the device manager again. If you still can't see it, then there are two possibilities. 1) The CD/DVD drive is bad. 2) The connection on the motherboard is bad for the CD/DVD drive In either case, both motherboards and cd/dvd drives are customized in laptops for every vendor, so you will have to contact yours in order to get a replacement. http://www.benq.us/support/contact/index.cfm?region=78&query=4
