SOURCE: kidde smoke alarm won't stop chirping

Most smoke detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-10 years. On the underside of the detectors should be a sticker with installed dated or replace by date. If changing the batteries doesn't stop the chirping it is most like time to replace the detector. If you check the manufacturer website they will give you a life expectancy for your detector.

If the display shows "Lb", the battery is probably low; replace it. If the display shows "Err", push and hold the Peak Level button. Does the display change to "E09"? If so, then you have just been "had" by the grossly under-documented "planned obsolescence feature" called, rather matter-of-factly, "End of Life". This means that ~7 years after first being powered up, the unit will, BY DESIGN, cease to function, forcing you to buy a replacement. Would have been nice of Kidde to include THAT warning on the OUTSIDE of the package. Call their "Hotline" at 1-800-880-6788 and tell them what you think of that policy. If it is still under warranty (5 or 7 years depending on date of manufacture) they should replace it. In any event, buy another one; if they replace your first one you will have twice the protection. Not a bad thing. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. Words to live by: "Every creative act results from a sudden cessation of stupidity." -Edwin H. My Kidde Model 1285 keeps chirping even after I changed the batteries, any ideas why?

Be sure you are using a well known brand battery. The store brands, in my my opinion generally are not quite up to par. Try this and see if the chirp will stop. Thanks for asking me.

Chirps about every 30 seconds

The chip indicates a bad battery. I didn't look up your model but, if it is supposed to charge battery, which I'd doubt and, if it has a 10 year warranty on the battery, Kidde should replace the abtteryand/or unit, otherwisw I would think you would void your warranty. I'm sure you can find a repalcement battery if you had to and the chirping is really annoying so maybe you can remove the battery to make it stop, but you will have to leave it unhooked until you resolve your problem because it will still chirp if installed with no battery.

Kidde Smoke detector 1275 continues to chirp. I located the detector and opened it but I can't get to the battery. Please help

When you say you opened it, what do you mean? The unit should come off the trim ring and expose the bottom which I believe is where the battery is located. Just so you know, if the unit is more than 10 years old the entire unit must be replaced per NFPA 72.
