Re: SATA hard dive replacement
Very much possible.insert yr vista cd in yr cd/dvd rom drivethen on yr system go to bios setting make sure first boot device is cd rom. then boot uy system it will ask u to press any key to boot from cd rom. so now press any key on yr key board and the rest is don by the vista all u do is just selct options like language when it ask u or say registration key. then to an extend, it will restart or ask u to press enter to restart. after restarting u dont have to press any key to boot from cd rom again plz take note. if it ask u to press any key dont press after a while it will then boot and continue from where it stopt last. so u just seat back n watch it install.
do rate this if it worked for u

Dear Sir.i have Transcend 120GB SATA . When i connect it
to my Laptop( its Windows Vista Home Premium) banner appear it said -Your device malfunctioning.error 0004 .olso sometime its connecting normally and open my files in it-can you give me any hint what to do? THANKS
there are no drivers required for a hard drive.
Windows 7 should automatically detect the new hard drive and it should show up in disk management to format or prompt you to format.
Check your cable connections again.
Otherwise your new hard drive may be DOA. Return it to the store that you purchased from.
The error you're recieving is a fair warning that the hard drive is about to die, if it were a "replace engine" light on your dash you would know what to do. Time for a new drive. If there's any dat on the old drive you need you have already comprimised it by re-installing windows, if so STOP using it and let me know your Country, state, city... from a different computer and I will point you to a data recovery specailist. If it's just a workhorse or you have it backed up, buy a new drive, re-install on it and you're back in business.
Software downloads are available from the Seagate support site. Here is
a link to the download page for Maxtor OneTouch III family. It should provide the latest version of all software that came with the new unit, including "Updated software to run in Windows Vista. Also can be used in case the
original software that was preloaded on the drive has been erased."
The device driver is causing a conflict with the system. If you have got any specific cd with hardrive install the driver from the cd. Otherwise , i would suggest try changing he manufacturer of the hdd and get a new one. If you have recently bought it.
Otherwise try creating a new account in windows vista on your computer and then try plugging in the drive
Ok Go into your hardware device manager and uninstall your Universal Serial Bus Controllers and if there is mass storage device also uninstall it. Click on action -> scan for hardware changes, then it should automatically install the drivers back now it should detect.
make sure your using your jumper correctly if your using ide. however if your using a sata drive go into the control panel and click on the device manager check under disk drives and if it is recognized then you most likely need to add the drivers.if it still dose not want to work contact the support line for the manufacture and or windows but i do beleave that my advice should fix or help find the problum.
