Question about Noritz 6.9 Gallon Residential Direct Vent Tankless Water Heater - N

1 Answer

Help! We bought out home 3 years ago and have a Nortiz tankless water heater. Recently we heard a dripping sound coming from the water heater and found that the bottom of the unit is leaking. We had a plumber come out and "fix" it. However $300 later the unit is still leaking...... at least a handful of water. We need it fixed but we don't have the money to keep sending people out here to fix the water heate! Please help!

You will need to explain more of where the leak is on the bottom. You have two plastic valves on the bottom and if the clips are not on exactly it will leak and if the person who replaced valves did not use vasoline when they put it back together the could have cut the gasket ring on the inside putting in back together and again it will leak. You have to determine where the leak is coming from to begin with using a flash light to get the exact location. .

Rheem water heater rtg95dvn keeps blowing 3 amp fuses

Not for sure what your root cause was and I know it's a little late but I just suffered this same exact scenario on the same water heater. Storms came through, power went out, power came back on and the water heater keeps blowing the 3 amp fuses now. I removed all the cables and plugged them back in one at a time. When I plugged in the Fan Motor connector the fuses blew. Installed new fuses with the connector out, the Fan Motor was putting out 150 VDC through the connector port (on main control). I pulled the control from the unit and Q1 is visible blown and disintegrated on the control board. Obvious control design issue. I've ordered a new control and will put a surge protector on the heater now when the new control comes in. Very disappointed that this was not caught in controls testing within the manufacturers facility. New control is not very cheap. Half the cost of a new Heater. Hopefully the Fan Motor survived the high voltage with the fuses blowing. I'm putting this here for anyone else that suffers the same issue on this water heater or the Richmond equivalents as they use the same control.

The NC250 (N-0931M) Series ASME Tankless Water Heater is a commercial grade water heater and many people install the vent wrong. PVC CANNOT be used for venting. The NC250-DV-ASME is for indoor use only. Improper venting will cause the symptom you describe.

No hot water? How can we reset?

This happens with Nortiz heaters. They just **** out. Likely the installation is very bad, but the unit can not tolerate that and it just dies. I recommend getting a Bosch 2700 or 715. If you want great efficacy, get the C-800. But follow the instructions! If it is installed correctly and you have the CO2 levels adjusted when it is installed, you will be very happy.

Water becomes ice cold in the middle of a shower

Sounds like you have a problem with water flow. Since your ground water is warmer in the summer, you mix less hot and more cold in order to get the same warm temperature. If your hot water flow gets low enough, your tankless will start to "short cycle" in order to prevent scalding. Use one of these three methods to increase your water flow at the shower:

1) Clean your shower head and descale
2) Widen the hole in the showerhead's flow restrictor
3) Remove your flow restrictor entirely

Good luck!

Heater not working

Probably a 12 or 21 code. Neither of which a Consumer can do ANYTHING about. Call Noritz 1-888-382-6568 and they will have a Regional Service/Repair Field Engineer call you and diagnose problem.
This is a sophisticated appliance unserviceable to Consumer but you may diagnose it with the help of the FE for Service Contractor to repair.
N069M-DV was discontinued 3 years ago replaced by N0751M-DV. Have you checked the inlet filter since you bought it? Is it on good soft water? It's a strong pretty dependable unit IF INSTALLED PROPERLY and MAINTAINED.

Trouble light bilnks 3 times pause and then repeats

You have a 16 error code, abnormal output temperature. I recommend performing a descale to remove hard water deposits in the heat exchanger. This should resolve your issue.
