Question about Creative Labs ZEN Vision:M Digital Media Player

1 Answer

My Zen vision 30gb has suddenly got a firmware problem during the middle of a sync. The screen just has firmware problem on it. It wont turn off either. I've tried resetting it, but during the rebuild the firmware problem just comes back on screen. Media player won't recognize that it's docked. Have tried the recovery tool, but it won't recognize the zen either, although the computer makes the noise when I put it in the usb port. I use vista and I think media player 11 . I've previously downloaded a firmware update, but not sure of the version. It was a while ago. Any suggestions? Am I destined to have to get an I-pod?

yes. The first solution didn't work, so I had to reformat it. Everything seems to be working fine now, thank you

Files could have been corrupted whilst the sync or an upgrade was done.

Go to My Computer, click Manage, click on Device Manager. My Zen should show there with a yellow triangle. Uninstall the Zen from the computer. Connect my Zen to the computer with the USB cable. Then the computer should detect it by now.

If the firmware still shows up, you need to do a clean up and reformat in the Recovery Mode.

Creative Zen Vision M 30GB wont turn on

Problem could be the combination of a bug that causes the device to freeze and the battery running out. If...
- the player won't turn on
- the player won't connect to PC
- the standard reset action won't work,

plugging the player in the AC charger may pull up the recovery screen which will allow you to proceed and reboot, provided the player has no other eg hardware issues.

Firmware problem for zen vision M

I had the same issue with my zen vision m. It was not recognized on any computer (although it would charge) and I noticed that when I turned it on after having it off for any amount of time, the zen would rebuild half way before turning on.
If this is what is happening with you, then this one solution I found to fix it:
Download the MP3 Recovery Tool from Creative Support website. Make sure that your Zen is charged at least half.   Turn on your Zen, Holding the power switch in the on position (Very Important!). While holding the Power switch on, Reset the Zen by inserting a small object in the Reset hole on the bottom of the Zen (small objects can include thumbtack, wire, earring, etc...). You will see a menu: Clean Up, Format, Reload OS/Firmware, Reboot. (It is now safe to stop holding the Power switch) I decided to go down the list until something worked.  I ran Clean Up first and that didn't work for me, so I tried Format.  It will remove all of your data. Once Format runs, Reboot the MP3 player and plug it up to the computer. Run MP3 Recovery Tool. The firmware should should install itself on your MP3. Once installed, your computer should recognize the Zen.
I hope this helps!

Cannot reload firmware

I had the Exact same problem and no one had a good solution, i only found one that finally worked after spending 4 freakin hours tryin to fix it. anyway here is the solution.

you need to use a computer that has Windows XP, then if the computer is running any version of Windows media player other than 10, roll back or upgrade to Media player 10. restart the computer.

Now, you need to download and run http://www.delldjsite.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=462 honestly i have no idea what it does. my guess is it reinstalles the USB ports but thats only a guess. but i was so frusterated by the time i found this solution that i was willing to try anything. so download this file, unpack it and run it. then it will ask you to restart. when your computer is restarted run the new firmware file ( i used 1.62.2.0) and it works.

Why? i have no idea, but it i was pumped. the origional site i got this solution from is http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18864

Zen Vision M freezing during music upload.

Try to add your music a bit at a time instead of your whole library at once. That will freeze it. You can also try sync with Window's Media Player, which works a lot better than the Creative software.
