Question about Sony KP-51HW40 51" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Kp51hw40 Hi... i read somewhere where you had said that if we order the ics from that parts store you recommend that they would provide instructions and pictures on how to replace the ics. I ordered two but didnt get instructions on removal and insertion. What gives. I can solder, so i guess i will just have to wing it.

Hi SLinteriors... yes thanks... I emailed them and they shot out the instruction via email... thank you... and I hope your recovery from the tornatoes go well.

Hi SL... I swapped out the ics (2). Still not workin. However, its probably b/c i butchered the job.(poor soldering). I switched to a better desoldering iron and boy it works fast and great. The last pin was murphys law all the way. Wouldnt take solder for nothin. I would take out the board completely for better positioning but those two red high voltage wires wont come out. The service manual says twist and pull but wont budge. Can I clip em? I will resolder again and see. Can I send you the board? If its not the ics what else could it be? But first i will resolder then see. Thanks a mil !!!

We are slowly getting back to normal, the power outages were a big hassel especially at work. Doing projection repairs by flashlight and propane soldering irons is not all its cracked up to be. Good luck with your repair.

Hi there. i have a panasonic dvd-s53 , the power supply ic1021 is blown up , i need to know the number please. thank you.

I am not totally sure since you may not be able to read the number on the original IC - however C0DACZH00006 appears to be one number for Panasonic IC 1021 reference. (this is for the DVD-S47 but it seems to be standard type for this series).

I suggest you contact an authorised service centre or Panasonic directly, and provide the above number IC to them - along with the DVD player model number - if this turns out to be correct, you can go ahead and order the part. Not too expensive and it is not a surface-mounted component. It is available. I also recommend that you replace all the electrolytic capacitors in the SMPS - as several may have leaked, causing the demise of the IC. Don't just replace the IC - and touch up any dodgy solder joints in this circuit.

See how you go. No power supply is irreparable.

The blue won't align with the other colors. It looks like a double pic, but it's only the blue that won't align with the others.

One of your convergence IC have failed. I recommend having both of them replaced as the other may not be far behind to fail also, They are large OP-AMP IC's that control the beam in each of your picture tubes. They may use the part# STK-392-110, google this number for better info on the IC's and where to get them. If you know how to solder and unsolder electronic componets then you can install them yourself, saving you some money. They are the two or three LARGE BLACK IC's mounted on a large metel sink. Typical price for most local shop to repair this problem is $130-$210.00 depending on what IC's part number is installed.

Hi Dave

Thanks for using FixYa. If the issue is with the failed convergence (STK) ICs which needs to be replaced then, it’s not a difficult job if you want to do this yourself, you should require some basic knowledge about soldering-resoldering components. To start with you’ll have to open the back of the unit and then replace the ICs(STK ICs) which are located behind the black/gray heat sink and also check theresistors as if they are short the ICs might blow again after sometime. Please check this picture:
And yes you are right there are repair kits available which includes repair instructions with the parts, if you want to do it yourself, you can buy and repair it yourself. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.
