"Denon AVR 2106 Protect Mode" Q&A from a couple years ago, as I have the same problem. tech48 gave a good "how to check the 3 most likely problems". I followed his instructions. My problem is apparently... "Reason 1 The receiver has a blown channel. This will require the replacement of many parts. The output transistors, supply resistors, driver transistors, and a capacitor in the driver circuit of the affected channel. It is usually the channel that is located closest to the display board on the main heat sink." Was hoping for some Denon Guru guidance

SOURCE: Denon Protection Mode Question

Hi Grant,

I will be happy to help you figure this one out. First, let's make sure that the output channel is blown. Have you checked the output transistors on the heat sink? Are they shorted? This is the first thing to check for this failure. If you have verified that the channel is in fact bad, I will then give you a list of all the parts you need to replace.

You mentioned that the unit took a power surge. If this is true, it may not have a shorted channel, it could be the power transformer that is bad.

Does the unit turn on and then go into the protect mode with the display lighting up and then it shuts down a few seconds later?

Have you checked the fuse that is right near where the power cord plugs into the main board?

I just want to confirm the actual problem before proceeding any further, it will save both you and I time and trouble. Please wait to rate this solution until we have finished our communications and are sure of the problem.

Thanks,

Dave

My AVR-2106 receiver will only stay on for a few seconds before clicking off. We have disconnected all components and speakers from unit to eliminate short circuit/wire problems and still with only power...

Hi amy, Your vivid description of the problem confirms that the protect circuit is cutting off the amp on detection of a high current drain. The possible fault is the failure of the Audio Power Output Mosfets. You will need to remove the mother board to test the stage and confirm to replace one of the stages.
The second possibility is that the protect circuit by itselff could be defective and cause a faulty bias to trigger the cut off. This must be checked by a stage by stage Voltage check.
Since the removal of the mother board requires some experience so as not to tamper the set , you must decide on the course of action.
The other option I can suggest is to call up the Denon call centre and check up the nearrest service centre, send and receive the set to them by courier after confirming the fault and estimated costs. If this justifies then it must be thought of.
I am sure you can search for one as I am not sure the place of your residence... try a search on the web for Denon service support with your location/city.
I hope my advice helps but please open the cover to have a look inside for visible damages.
Good day

Denon avr-2106 getting hot shutting down

Normally when this happens it is because the impedence load is too small. This unit requires 8 Ohm speakers. If you connect 4 Ohm speakers, it will work, but work harder and generate excessive heat. If the heat is too much, the unit will enter protect mode and shut down. Once it cools off, it will work again. In your case, if the speakers are the correct impedence, check for crossed wires. If that is the problem, running the unit at higher volume levels should cause it to shutdown sooner.

My Denon AVR 2106 gives sound out periodically in all modes

So you have no sound on any Inputs?  This makes a difference, if it works on some inputs but not others.  For a factory reset - turn the unit off by the ON/OFF button (not the standby button) hold in the SPEAkER A & B buttons at the smae time, while pressing them turn the system on by the ON/OFF button, wait about 3 seconds and the unit should reset everything.

AVR 810 Denon Receiver Sub Woofer Hookup?

Denon AVR-810 was a quite out-dated model. I had owned since 1992. It shown 'Protection' on the screen for 2 months ago and not yet been fixed. Better to replace a modern one or repair it at a reasonable costs.

HAVE TO UP VOLUME ON DENON 2106 TO HEAR ALL AUDIO IN NIGHT MODE

There should be a volume adjust on the center channel. This is done by the remote exclusively. You may also wish to compress the sound using the dynamic range compression button or so labeled.

Denon AVR-810 going into PROTECTION mode

It sounds like there is a problem with the differential circuit. The bias I am not sure about, as every unit is different. You should get the service manual to be sure or call Denon and see if they can give you an idea. Good Luck
