You must turn the Diagnostics ON. Open the CATALOG of commands by pressing [2nd[0]. Press the key that has Letter D next to it. From that point in the catalog, scrool Down to get to DiagnosticsON. Highlight the command and press Enter. The calculator will echo the command in the Main screen. Press ENTER.

From now on the coefficient of determination ( the square of R) will be displayed along with other statistics.

Enter your data in two lists (x-values in L1, Y-values in L2)

Press F2 to activate the CALC Tab at the bottom of screen.

If you press F3:X^2, you get the following

For other models like linear, logarithmic, power and exponential regressions, the correlation coefficient is defined and is thus displayed with the regression equation. It is the r-value.

If the OS of calculator has been upgraded to version 2.53 MP, press [MODE] to open the configuration screen of calculator and scroll down to get the second page. Use down arrow to highlight the ON on line STATDIAGNOSTICS: Off ON

If you did not upgrade to the OS version 2.53MP, then you can access the catalog of commands to execute the DiagnosticsOn command.

Press [2nd][0] to open catalog.

Press [X^-1] to jump to the first command that starts with D.

The correlation factors R and R^2 are not defined for all regression models. Some models(such as the linear regression model) have a correlation coefficient, others do not. It means nothing to those models and is thus NOT DEFINED.

Although the coefficient of correlation is well defined for a few regression models, you do not calculate it directly because your calculator does that for you.

I could just tell you that it is displayed along with the statistical results (equation of best fitting curve, ) but if you do not know how to do that you will just shoot my post. If you know how to do a linear regression, stop right here and ignore what follows.

I am sorry but I will have to assume that you know how to enter the data through the [MENU][STAT].

On that same screen, you have a menu option [F6:Draw]. If you select it, the regression curve will be drawn on the same screen as your statistical graph. This allows you to judge if the fit is good. If it is not, you have the option to choose another model.

The other option [F5:Copy] allows you to save the regression equation in the Y1, Y2, etc. variables.

An easy way to verify that, is to use the Command DiagnosticOn, accessible through the catalog [2nd][0] (CATALOG) . Press [X^-1] (D) to jump to first command that starts with D. Scroll down to DiagnosticOn, select it and press [ENTER]. Calculator replies Done.

Do your sine regression again. If the correlation coefficient has meaning for this type of regression, you will find it with the other statistical variables. You may have to scroll down the statistical variable list to verify the whole contents of the list.

I already answered a Q like this - you can't do 2 variable statistics on the TI-30XA, it only does one variable statistic.

To do 2 variable stat like linear regression, you need the TI-36X or TI-30X IIS, or comparable HP, casio etc
