Question about Sharp Projection Televisions

4 Answers

I have a standard definition, CRT-type, Sharp TV, model no. 32C540. It recently stopped working. It will not power up. Pressing the front panel power switch, or the remote power switch produces nothing but the sound of a relay switching. 'but no power to the set'. I tried bypassing the power relay, and the degaussing coil relay but 'no cigar'. I suspect a Switching I.C., full-wave rectifier, or MOS Switch, but don't want to buy parts blindly.

Thanks. I agree it's a power supply issue. I do have the repair manual, and accompanying block diagrams, and schematics. I suspect switching I.C. (ref. no. IC701), or MOS (ref. no. Q701, or the rectifier diode bridge (ref. no. D701). These are part of the primary switching to the power transformer from which all the set's voltages are derived. Thanks again.

Thanks. I have checked the outlet, and also switched to a different outlet. The power cord is fine. The sound is definitely not from the fly-back transformer. It is from the power relay being energized, but no 125 volt being switched across its terminal. I've bypassed the relay to eliminate it as the problem. I am aware of the dangerous voltages. I've gotten two quotes from Sharp Authorized repair centers (approximately $190). Thanks again.

Thanks. Apparently the full-wave bridge rectifier is fine since the DC supplies, i.e. +13v, +8v, and S+B, must be present for the System Control IC (IC2001)to function, and Regulators IC101, 1403, and 751, ( +5v, +5-B, and +9v-B respectively). Because of this I can also rule out the MOS switch Q701. I've narrowed it down to IC701, (switching for transformer primary to provide +130v to rest of set through the Power Relay RY7002. Thanks for the help.

The problem may in the power IC or mos transistor or even the gas in tube is weak, check the ckt board and replace the board as changing the single component may create the same problem later its better to change the board than to change individual components .........

Hello,

REmove the suspected parts then test it independently start with the most easy part to remove. then test.

Please do also the continuity test from the power input to the projection .

From the symptoms you describe, it seems the high voltage flyback autotransformer has failed. The sound comes from the flyback unit.

But first, check that the AC outlet at the wall is actually working and viable. That is the first step. Next, try a different power cable (if you have the removable type). If these two are ok, then it is most likely a problem with the autotransformer or any one of the power components. It is difficult to say exactly which may be faulty without actually inspecting the parts and testing them.

I would recommend getting a repair guy to take a look, as I do not recommend opening up the set if you have no prior experience. There are voltages inside that can KILL.

Ask him to give you a quote, and if you find that the rate is too high, it would probably be better to just buy a new set.

Hope that helps..

Well, check each component for continuity, and by process of elimination, you should find the defective part..

    Good luck with the repair!

Hmmm...well...you are most likely dealing with a power supply issue..I'd suspect the capacitors, or the actual rectifiers before messing with the control devices..

My recommend..get your hands on a service manual and schematic, before opening up a can of worms on this one.

easiest is to determine if the diodes are good..everything else downstream depends on a dc voltage..just check to see if there's enough there for the rest of the circuit to operate..

Timer is on and Tv will not come on

Press the System Reset Button which is on the RHS on control panel
If the TV fails to respond to the remote control, control panel
buttons, or will not power on/off, press the SYSTEM RESET button on the control panel.
The green LED on the front panel will flash quickly for up to one and a half minutes. When the green LED stops flashing, you may turn on the TV. Recent setting changes you made before using SYSTEM RESET may be lost.
If that fails try pressing and holding the menu button for 8 secs

My sharp 32c540 picture is dark since i bought it brand new 6 years ago.

You may just have to make a different kind of adjustment.

This is what is called a direct view or crt type TV.

Inside on the main board (see attached photo) is the "flyback" transformer.

Note the two little controls embedded in it----top one is focus--leave it alone.

Lower one is SCREEN and a very slight upwards or right adjustment will bring the overall brightness up.

You want to adjust it just till with brightness on set all the way up you have a normal picture.

Too much and you get excessive brightness and trace lines and or further too much shuts set off.

Some sets have two holes in back of cabinet and small tool can get in and adjust the LOWER or screen control and others the back has to be removed.

Lay set face down on padded surface, remove back screws and set upright---do not touch anything inside with set on when you make the adjustment--control is plastic and a plastic tool a good idea--I have used regular screwdriver but know what not to do.

Let me know if you have questions 98% chance just need the Master Screen bumped up a little bit.

High pitched noise coming from my tv

is the TV a CRT, plasma,LED or LCDCRT is a very old type which consists of a vacuum tube that has an electron gun that shoots energy at the front of the screen where pixels divide the light into 3 colours RED BLUE GREENLCD, LED and plasma are the most modern of which run in high definition. CRTs are very bulky, while the other 3 types are slim and light, if it is a CRT, drop the colours to a lower setting and it should silence it, I had to do this countless times with my computer's monitor as it is a CRT.

How much is a 1998 26 inch Sharp tv worth?

If it is in good working condtion and looking very clean you may be able to get about $60 to $100 for it. Remember that there are new LCD TV sets that are very low in cost and will out perform your set.
I have seen some 24 inch models on sale for under $250 with a 3 year warranty. And, these sets will work in 16:9, has component inputs, and are packed with features.

In these times, people are trying to get rid of their CRT sets and change for the LCD types.

A 24 inch flat screen TV has about the same viewing as a 25 to 26 inch CRT TV.

This is a hard question to answer without the make and model, but let me describe the typical response:

If the set is either an LCD or plasma type, the panels can be replaced. BUT... The cost of that replacement could exceed the cost of a new replacement set. Neither panel type can be "repaired" it must be replaced.

If the set is a CRT based unit, the CRT is not likely to have been broken, but the front screen or the interior mirror may have broken. Either the screen or mirror can be replaced as well.

For a more exact response, please post the make and model of the set.

Thanks,
Dan

Turning on SD-P403 Pioneer projection tv

Take off back cover. The problem power board is to the right of the board where the power plug feeds into the TV. There is a large white fuse right bend the power plug. With a meter it read ok; about 8 inches deeper into the TV on that board was the resister next to two fuses. My 4 amp 125 volt fuse did not read on my meter. After replacing, it worked fine.
