Question about Toshiba Satellite A65-S1062 Notebook

2 Answers

I need to restore my Satellite A65 to out of box state. The DVD stopped working as well. The recovery disk is a DVD. I tried to put it on a pin drive and restore from there. As I suspected, it restarts trying to reload from the CD drive. I thought about trying an external DVD drive, but I hate to buy one and get the same problem as the flash drive--restarting itself only looking at the original DVD, maybe ignoring the external to automaticaly start up. I tried to follow all the suggestions I've been reading. Does anyone have advice?

I'd consider fixing the computer first by getting a new/refurb DVD. Here is one source: http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Satellite,A65,PSA60U-01W015,Laptop,Drives-CD-DVD-RW.aspx
Having said that, why not spend $350 and get a new computer? A computer without a CD or DVD is a real pain as you have discovered.
If this answers your question, I'd appreciate 4 thumbs. I do this for fun and do not get paid.

Starting with Windows Vista there is a big leap in doing a system restore or recovery. Windows 7 also has the same options. In case your system is not displaying any GUI or there is crash more often , just follow these

  • Press F8 when your computer starts.
  • Choose System Recovery which should be the first option
  • You will be prompted for user name password which should be an administrator account.
  • Next you will get 5 ways of making a restore : Startup repair, System Restore, Windows complete pc restore, Windows Memory Diagnostic tool and Command prompt

System Recovery tools in Windows Vista and Windows 7
Out of the 5 options, Windows Complete PC restore is used when you have backup of your pc or at least of the drive where you had installed windows. Command prompt recovery mode is only for advanced users and Memory Diagnostic tool is only used when windows gives notification to you and asks you to run it. Else it is not required to run it.

Puertobori, I tried that, I don't get that list of options. I get the same list that someone else had posted--someone suggested that person had to get a disk. Which I have, but doesn't help since the drive spontaneously stopped working. Thanks for the effort.

Jim, a new system instead of investing in a drive were my thoughts exactly. I just can't believe the money I spent on what I thought would be a quality computer was so fragile. Meanwhile everyone else is spending $250-350 on Acers and not having problems. I suppose I should just stick with Mac. Thanks for the effort.

I own a Toshibe Satellite L350D-215 running windows 7, when I power on the laptop it brings up the Toshiba welcome screen then loads a screen stating that there is or has been a problem and you have...

Sounds like you need to run the recovery disk

If your have the Recovery Disk put it in and boot from cd/dvd,
[Push "F12" at the Toshiba boot screen to access the Boot Menu]

you will loss all your info,,

to save your info [pic's] you will need to plug your hard drive into a desktop with sata.. and back up you info that way then run the disk

if you dont have the disk you will need to get a new windows 7 dvd or contact toshiba for a new Recovery Disk set,

Some times they put the Recovery on the hard drive but i think you need the disk with this one.

Is there a way to restore factory settings (out of the box settings) for the Toshiba Satellite A65-S1062?

Hi blackrose696. There's 2 ways. 1.- If you go to My Computer and see a partition (probably D:) called recovery, go to Start - All Programs - and see if you see under Toshiba - something called recovery or restore (you WILL loose ALL your data) and follow the instruction. If you DO see the partition but you dont see anything under Toshiba folder, then restart the computer and inmediately you will see something like Press F10 or F12 to boot from recovery partition.
If you dont see the recovery partition. The only way is using the Restore CDs... if you dont have those you have to order them from the Toshiba website. (they cost like $15) so that way you are sure you get the license and the drivers correctly. I hope this helps. Please do not forget to rate and provide positive feedback from our support today. Thank you :D

Either you DVD is corrupt, OR the DVD reader is not working correctly. It seems the reason the restore failed, is that it "Thinks" the Hard Drive is corrupt, too corrupt to replace the OS on...
The only thing to try now, is to get a Windows install DVD, put DVD in drive and boot from the DVD, then try to install with that, when you get to installing and it asks if you want to Format, do so, format Full NTFS. Then try to proceed to installing. If this too fails then you will need to replace your hard Drive, quite a simple matter.

I would like to restore my Toshiba Satellite laptop A85 to original state. Can I do this without the disks. I have backed up all of my information and want to start over.

It depends. Some laptop computers have a usually-hidden "recovery" partition on the disk-drive.

Reboot the computer, and look for a "start recovery" option as the first page of text on the computer-screen. Press the specified key to access that "recovery" partition.

Or, some Toshiba computers have a utility to *CREATE* a set of system-recovery CDs, by burning the necessary files onto CD/DVD-recordable disks. Run that utility.

My toshiba a65 is having errors with the cd writer/dvdrom. drive not working. Don't have new drivers available to install, but is telling me my current drives are missing or corrupt. I have used a MY BOOK...

Shouldnt have to install drivers for cd/dvd drives. Try googling "upperfilters" and "lowerfilters" for fixing cd/dvd drive issues. Could even be a bad drive.

Toshiba Satelite A65-S1762 hard drive problem

That means that the disk has a bad sector.

Try chosing the option to format the hard drive during the system installation.

If that does not work, then replace the hard drive.
