PEAVEY TRANSTUBE AUDITION 110. PLUG UNIT IN POWERS UP . SITS THERE AND HUMS LOUDLY. SPEAKER WORKS. plug guitar in can hear it faintly, push lead chanel button in , hum gets super loud. HUM IS IN PROPORTION TO VOLUME KNOB. OPENED UNIT UP TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY LOOSE WIRES OR GROUND STRAP PROBLEM.( there is not even a grouding plug on this unit or a ground lift switch) It ONLY HAS A 2 PRONG PLUG. CHECKED PC BOARD FOR BURN MARKS,LOOKED FOR VISABLE BAD ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS. CHECKED ALL INPUT JACKS WHERE THE GUITAR GOES IN . THEY ARE WORKING FINE.PHYSICAL CONDITION OF THIS AMP IS GREAT.PC BOARD IS SIMPLE .SOME RESISTORS, CAPS...BLA, BLA BLA...I THINK I HAVE IT DOWN TO 3 COMPONENTS THERES A TRIAC WITH 5 LEGS( 69af lm1875t)possibly spiked or bad. dont know the electrical value of this item. theres a super small IC plug in Prom chip on the board (e1a-695 a9716) possibly spiked or bad maby needs replacement. Then last... possibly an open winding in the transformer?? causing him or sending voltage where it isnt supose to go? this is a solid state unit No tubes...Any history of this amp in troubleshooting . what should i tackle first?any ideas? thanks Doug

There should be an 8 pin IC close to the input jack that will be marked 4558 or 4560. This is an Op-amp Ic that is the most likely cause of the problem. Replace that IC and report the results here.

Amp hum

Could be a couple things. Check grounds. Make sure cables do not have broken conductors, Make sure all tubes are fully seated. look for broken wires on chassis, spray a little contact cleaner into the jacks and insert and pull out plug a few times to clean the interrupts. Check the tubes for heater to cathode shorts,

Check for florescent lighting and similar noise sources with an AM/MW transistor radio, and if nothing is found externally, then you need to look at the condition of the filter caps in the power supply. The filter caps "may" show signs of failure, such as bulging, or leaking a black ooze, but they can also fail with no outward evidence.

Peavey 110 audition SN 08859348 has a "hum"

If you disconnected it internally, you may have an input lead open. Check solder joints as well.

Peavey Audition 110 Combo: When amp is switched on and any guitar played through it comes through extremely loudly compared to the volume it is set at. After a number of dunts with my fist on the top of...

The problem is LIKELY a broken solder joint right at where the leads of the volume pot come through the circuit board. The broken joint will ozidize overnight and then when vibration rattles it it will punch through the oxide. INSPECT all solder for the pot leads. Lood for a TINY grey line in the menicus of the solder where the lead comes through the board.

Distortion on the lead channel is not working

The intergrated circuit is most likely gone out. Not much you can do, cost in repair is more than the amp. Check out the peavey vypyr, it's a great modeling amp for about $100.

Hi, Peavey Classic Guitar amp , Has NO SOUND

Hi Mike,

If you switch on the amplifier, do you hear nothing at all?
Or do you hear low level noise or hum out of the speaker?
Don't know if you're technician.
If the tubes are glowing, you can measure the high voltage.
Check also fuse 3 and 4, thats the neg. voltage -27V and -14V.

regards,
Gerard
