Viewing Problem

I have a Necvox RE-8269D. Everything is working, except that the screen is to dim to view. If I shine a flashlight on it I can see the screen, although dimmly. I have tried adjust everything that I can think of, especially all the video controls. Does this happen to LCD screens? Or. is there something that I am missing?
I have the same problem.

The back lights are burnt out. It happens with age.
