Question about Hunter "Lexus" Traditional 52" Ceiling Fan "Black" w/ three Blade Choices

Open Question

I recently installed a Hunter Allendale fan with light kit. The bulbs with the fan were 40 watt candelabra base. I replaced them with florescent bulbs for energy savings. Now the florescent bulbs are blinking strobe-like in an a random pattern. Why do these bulbs blink?

60 watt bulbs are the maximum recommended, and can be used.if using a remote control, a slight delay is normal, compare it to the delay when turning on a TV.

You have a wiring conflict. I would triple check the units wiring diagram that came with the unit and also be sure the wires in the ceiling are not reversed at the source. It happens that when some houses are built the wires that are wired to the ceiling can be reversed if say they have a trainee or a fella with say a hang over doing the wiring.

As a last resort I would even consider getting a fan without the remote and try it. Lowes has a no questions asked 90 return policy and the fan might have been made on someones off day as well.
Again - triple check the wiring and give it a new go because it sounds like the bad wiring is pulsing and letting you know something is drastically wrong.

Not the capacitor. If this fan has a remote make sure it's set for incandescent bulb & not CFL bulb. Should be where you install the battery. Also, make sure you're using the correct wattage as it might have a limiter in the fan.

How do we fix a hunter fan light kit that blew a bulb and now we can not get new bulbs to light/

You might check the light limiter, a.k.a. wattage limiter. Check the manuel for the location. F you dont have one you can find one on the hunterfan.com sight. Some of the fans only support low wattage lights bulbs (candelabra light bulbs) 60 watts and lower. You might have to open the light limiter to check for burn marks. If there is you need to buy a new one. And if you cant find the lights at a store you can always find them at a online store.

Wattage limiter hunter ceiling fan

As per the Energy Policy Act of 2005, all ceiling fans manufactured or imported into the United States must utilize a light bulb wattage limiter as of January 1, 2007. This limiter limits the capacity of the fan's light kit to a maximum of 40 watts per bulb. Not very bright at all!

Put in LED lamps and save a lot of work. Go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WeWSKNe64A it will show you how.

Question about light bulb problem in ceiling fan

Check wiring @ ceiling. Should b a black, white, green & red wire coming frm fan. Green is ground. Black & Red is power. White is neutral. Black provides power to fan, red provides lat power 4 lights. Remove light assembly, blue wire provides power. B sure 2 turn off power 2 fan b 4 working on it w/switch & breaker. Maybe lose wire connection or pinched wire grounding out. Fans require vibration proof bulbs regular bulb elements will break after short time use. Fan bulbs have larger filiments inside bulb.

Light kit has light bulb size that I cannot find bulbs for

Melanie, you must have gotten a bad batch of bulbs. I have installed over 100 Hampton Bay ceiling fans and I have dropped them from up the ladder and have them bounce across the floor with no damage. I think they must have allowed a substandard batch to go out.

Home Depot is where I buy my replacement bulbs. Hampton Bay make fans exclusively for HD.

You can easily change lighting bases, as the wiring is the same for all Hampton Bay. You may even appeal to Hampton Bay on the internet and they might send you the kits. But I don't think you'd have success in a store.

If you try replacing them with bulbs from another Home Depot you may find them much hardier. I wish you the best of luck, and if you need additional help please write back.

Me too. I went back to Home Depot. They gave to me the phone number for Hampton Bay - 1-877-527-0313. I will call them tomorrow after they open to see what the deal is. it looks to me like the JDE11 is a mini-candelabra base. The lady in the fans at Home Depot said that all of the light kits were changing to the smaller based halogen lights. BUT, you'd think that they'd carry the light bulbs that have to go in the light kits they sell!!!

MAXIMUM WATTAGE FOR FAN LIGHTS??????

those bulbs are candelabra type. if they came with the fixture then I wouldn't go to a higher wattage bulb. the sockets are probably bakelite and mounted with the base up so any heat off the lamps would be directed upwards. higher wattage bulbs may shorten the lifespan of the sockets. bakelite is a modified plastic. it won't melt but it will get brittle.
