Microwave (GE JVM1540) turns on by itself, won't go off. Have had to turn the breaker off, sometimes that works...sometimes not. What's going on?

Microwave gets hot and then shuts down, how can I fix this problem? Thanks

You might check to see if the fan is turning and the vents behind the fan are clear. It's possible the magnetron is over heating causing the oven to shut down.

My daughter put metal in oven it shut off. the oven turns buts shuts off after a few seconds. help

metal cannot absorb the microwaves, the microwaves bounce around inside the oven. Eventually they reflect back to the magnetron, which is the part that produces the microwaves. The magnetron can overheat and be damaged.
