Question about Toshiba Sony XRCA350X

1 Answer

I am replacing a very old Toshiba cassette/radio and it has only one wire (+) going to the speakers. How does that work? I am trying to install another radio that doesn't work this way.

Hello sir, hi most likely the one wire is the live audio out, you are missing the ground line, the missing wire maybe connected to ground already, just like in car wiring where the other line is the body. if not check your speaker connections, they should have a "+" and a "-" sign terminal. to complete a speaker connection it should have two terminals. No speaker would work with only 1 terminal.

I have just bought a boat which has a alpine 7618r fitted but its not working can i slide a moden cd/mp3/usb replacement unit in there using existing wiring /speaker loom

Yes you can replace that unit however the harness that plugs into the old alpine in all probability will not work with another radio so you will have to connect the new radio's wiring harness to the boat's harness.

Sounds like your Gr Caravan has the premium sound package. You likely haven't hurt anything - but you may need to modify the wiring a bit. The speakers have a tweeter speaker in the center of the main speaker and the wiring goes through that. However, it only worked with the premium package. Go in to the speakers and move the wiring connections from the tweeter to the main speaker. Your other option is to replace the speakers.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On your need for the radio wiring of 99 Ford Explorer and a 96 Ford Crown Victoria, see below wiring scheme:

Confirm with a voltmeter on the +12 and an ohmmeter for speaker continuity.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Olds Cutlass factory radio/cassette, radio doesn't work.

When you say tried different radio and it didn't work, does this mean the tuner acts like it is functioning, but you hear nothing out of the speakers?

If so, this stinks of a bad ANTENNA...

JBL Pro Computer Speakers....

hi,

I believe your old sound card may be of higher quality than your new one, I had the same problem years ago what I did was this, I ran my speakers through an old dedicated dubbing cassette player out of an old kenwood stack stereo then into the computer, the cassette has a mild adjustable preamp when in record, you will have to put the deck on record the rest of the time with a blank tape- any old cassete deck will work.(thrift store) and your going to need a couple parts from radio shack. If you have the know how I suggest switching the audio cards out, drivers etc and / or seeing if you can have them both plugged in without an issue. If issue then try cassette then call and complain to the computer company for installing sub standard equipment.

computer audio output-> line in cassette->line out cassette-> line to speaker input

good luck

Your old unit was a common ground unit meaning all speaker grounds as well a radio ground were the same. The new unit should NOT be connected to this wire configuration. Newer units change the potential difference of the speaker power meaning that the - wire of the unit may have negative 24v on it so IT CANNOT BE REFERENCED TO EARTH OR CHASSIS GROUND.

I would recommend rewiring the speakers to the radio for best reliability and sound quality.
