Question about Craftsman Garden

1 Answer

My 16" chainsaw will run great for about 15 minutes and then act up. I can wait about 15 minutes and start over. What can I do? I've checked the air filter and I believe I've always used the right mixture of gas & oil. Thank you.

I don't know how old this machine is, but it sounds like the seals on the crankshaft may be leaking. This will cause the symptoms you described. (runs good cold). This repair could involve a couple hours of shop rate. Depending on saw value, may not be economically worth it.

I have a 16 in 235 Husqvarna chainsaw that starts find and runs for a few minute. then acts as if it is not gettting enough fuel as it starts to bog down while running and will not maintain idle.

It may well just need the carb adjusted, unfortunatley there is a special tool required the adjust the screws, the L screw on the carb may need richening up, so if you manage to get the tool unscrew it by 1/4 out ( anti cliock wise ) tool part no. 530035560

might pay to check the fuel tank breather , make sure its venting

check the ignition coil it may be going open circuit loosing its spark when it getts warm or hot , you have to wait till it cools to re-start

you will need a spark tester fitted in between ht lead and plug to check this visually when its running

check for a kill wire grounding 1st

cheers

Clean or change the sparkplug. Also make sure you have fresh gas and the proper fuel mix.

Dies when pressing the accelerator

If your chain brake is not engaged, which i am sure you have checked, look at the air breather filter or the exhaust muffler which could be blocked with carbon.

Husky 455 dies out at full throttle or under load

Your carb may be the issue but your ignition coil could be the culprit. Once they start going bad, they can act up intermittently or give various symptoms from day to day. The fact that your saw dies at full load or under load, probably means that when your saw gets hot or requires more spark, your coil is not able to provide it. Your carb is easy enough to clean out, you can take it all apart and clean all screens, etc....

I just replaced my coil due to the exact same symptoms and now my saw runs great. $60 off ebay and you can put it on in 15 minutes yourself. Check your carb first though
