I hope this is the way to post a rating. I can't find anything about it on the site.

Your suggestions were reasonable and well presented. My dishwasher's is improved but is still somewhat lacking. I attribute that to the fact that it is a built-in and I don't know how to get at the fill valve. The water comes up to the heating element, but does not cover it.

I rate your answer as a 4, though.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First of all please check the Water temperature by using a thermometer inside the dishwasher to measure the water temp. It should be as close to 125 degree F to 140 degree F as possible. Now try using the temperature boost feature if your dishwasher is equipped with this cycle feature and check if this will help your wash ability issues.

Now check the Powder soap by making sure that you store your soap in a dry environment and it is not stale and clumping together. Possibly try a different detergent like a liquid or gel. Also, make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded.

To check the proper filling dishwasher will fill with water up to and around the heating element. If water is more below the heating element, you may have low water pressure or a problem with the fill valve. Try & listen if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure. For low water pressure, try to clean the screen at the entrance of the fill valve, sometimes the fill valve can fail and not allow the proper water into the dishwasher and may need to be replaced. And, check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks. Also make sure that the water is draining and is not accumulated in the dishwasher, if it is in dishwasher then check for clogged drain hoses and drain pump. Low water fills are a very common trouble maker with today's dishwasher. Please accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

The problem is hard water. www.dishwasherfilter.com has a great new product out that will solve this problem once and for all. It filters the water entering your dishwasher and leaves your dishes looking amazing. They even have a money guarantee if you are not completely satisfied. Check it out. You will love it.

I have a 2006 tall tub kitchenaid dishwasher which over the last 6 months has been leaving residue on the dishes, esp. glasses. We have had it serviced twice. Last Wed was the last time and he found food...

Try changing the type and brand of detergent. We had similar problems with a Maytag dishwasher which was solved by the above. The glasses in particular seemed to have a sand-like texture in the debris, yet drinking water showed no such problem. Hope this helps!

MY DISHWASHER IS NEW DISHES ARE DIRTY AFTER WASHING

Check the screen in the bottom of the washer for debris. Remove the screen and clean out the impeller with your hand or an old toothbrush. Also check your vent hose coming out of your garbage disposal. This can clog and cause problems. Hope this helps your problem.

Food on dishes

Dish washers are not good at removing food debris.  They filter the water somewhat but in the main, they recirculate whatever was on the plates when you put them in plus the detergent.  The rinse takes all grease and solubles away.  Scrape your dishes of as much as you can before putting them in.  Use a good detergent in the amount specified.

Dishwashers need cleaning too :) Take a look inside your dishwasher: Click here http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=41284 then click on PUMP AND MOTOR diagram on the left. Number 47 on that diagram is a filter. Make sure that filter is clean. Then, using a dishwasher cleaner (see below) run your dishwasher through the entire cycle on empty. This should help, post back if it doesn't. Dishwasher cleaners: 1. Vinegar - good cheap solution, if you don't mind the smell :). Dump a gallon inside an empty dishwasher tub and start up the regular wash cycle. 2. CLR - I've been told it works, but never tried myself 3. Dishwasher Magic - This stuff works pretty good. One bottle per use. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/accessories.aspx?part_id=2675393&cat=62&rdr=%2faccessories.aspx%3fcat%3d62 Hope this helps, APP tech http://www.AppliancePartsPros.com
