If the power is going inside the v but the tv appears dead then the first thing you should check is the power button - the tv must be opened then the power board taken out partially (leave the wires attached) and tested. Plug the tv, press the start button then , using a voltmeter, check that the power reaches the power button. Press it then check if the power reaches the power board. If it does continue testing the power board: the mains filter, the rectifier, the filtering capacitors, the power transistor, the control transistor, the transformer, the ballast resistors, the secondary coils and so on.
At least a basic experience is required - you need to know what to look for and how to look for it. If you don't have it then going blindly is the worst thing you can do, you will damage it even further. Call a repairman.

The light means NOTHING other than a small voltage is getting to the unit. Verify the power supply is putting out the required voltage...

BUT FIRST...

A common cause of this is we forget which side is input and output... happens ALL the time, so verify you have the in and the out cables to the right placee.

AKAI 32" LCD HDTV WILL NOT TURN ON

The only solution at this point would be to get the power supply repair since new boards are not longer being manufactured. In about 95% of the time if the LCD doesn't power up or turns OFF by itself or need to be unplug for some time to make work again; those are the symptoms of a dying or defective power supply.
I service these power supplies, for more info write to jah2mil@hotmail.com
