ha ha ha ha ha not quite you have to take out every screw all covers, remove the screen, remove the hard drive, disconnect keyboard, disconnect every freakin cable that is there then slide left side of the top cover up then to the left then remove two tiny hidden screws to get to the cdrom drive (drive was not user servicable)

I don't want to change the subject too much but I couldn't help noticing your e-mail address' domain "whypayforhelp.org" .... yet when visiting the site, I noticed the following

    [Begin Quote]
our primary objective in the cast is to get a rapid response to general computer troubleshooting and repair, at the lowest price we can usally under $20.00 per hour.
    [End Quote]

Kinda contradicts the domain name somewhat??

How do I nremove the cover on a Gateway 200arc to replace the DVD drive..... Thanx

Looking at it from the bottom with the dvd drive to your right look for a screw about five and a half inches or so from the right hand side will either be in the middle line of the dvd drive or offset to oneside or the other. remove it and gently pull on the dvd drive or use an old credit card to pry it out till the connectors release. Then slide the replacement drive into place, and put the screw you removed back in.

Solution:

Your computer is set to boot from the network (PXE = Netboot).
Go to your BIOS and make sure you boot from your hard drive.

Your drivers are here http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?ref=step&st=browse&platform=10022&model=10447&os=&type=

Download PC Wizard to detect what type of controller you have, if it does not say in device manager ( right click my computer / manage / device manager)

CD Rom Drive door closes when the button is pushed, but then within 5 seconds opens again. It just will not stay closed, but I couldn't see that there is anything obstructing it when I used a flashlight...

Inside the computer chass, if you can see the CDROM is connected to the same data cable as that of an hard drive or something, you might like to remove the CDROM to another data cable or make sure the jumper of the CDROM is set to master. That may fix it.
If you remember a software downloaded about coffee cup holder, there might be a virus issue on your computer. A virus scan may help.

When I turn on the computer, I get a message that says "invalid system disk - replace the disk, and then press any key"

I have had this error before. Check your floppy and CD/DVD drives to see if there is a disk in them. If so remove and restart with your drives empty. This has helped me in the past.

I have 2 Gateway laptop computers and in one of them the CDROM Drive got fried. I would like to replace it with the one from the other laptop. How do I exchange them?

Before beginning, review electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions. Disconnect the power adapter, the modem and network cables, and remove the battery before removing the hard drive bay cover. Remove the RAM door whichi s secured by one screw. Now loosen the two hard drive screws and pull the DVD/CD-RW drive from the laptop. Replace the cover before restoring power or reconnecting the modem and network cables.
