Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

GE JMVWH03 is making strange sounds

I have a GE JMVWH03 microwave that's only two and a half years old and it's having problems. It makes strange sounds when on. It sounds like the turntable, but when I shut off the function, the sound continues. It still seems to work well. The heating function still seems to work, but the sound is bad. Over the last month, the sound when cooking has gotten quieter. It used to almost surge at times when cooking, but not any more. Any ideas?

I have the same problem. It is sort of a grinding sound that has gradually come over the last couple weeks and is getting worse.

It could be a loose fan.

My microwave runs and sonds normal but doesnt heat anyhing

First: Check the high voltage fuse (this fuse connects between the
high voltage capacitor to one pin of the magnetron( careful this capacitor must be discharged)), replace fuse if it blown.
Second: If this fuse blown again, the magnetron must be replaced
(shorted).
Note: These answers only apply when the microwave are working with normal sound but NO heat, If strange sound occurred that means could be something else faulty!
Good luck

My GE microwave makes sounds but does not heat the food. What can I do?

The problem is in the magnetron or the inverter board if 7 years old or less. Price should be a consideration.

My GE builtin microwave oven makes a buzzing sound, even when you just turn the surface light on and when you try to program it and, of course, doesn't heat. The repairman says it needs a new control...

Working inside a microwave is not something Average Joe should attempt. There are potentially LETHAL amounts of stored energy that needs to be properly discharged before repairs can begin.

The repairs in this case are more than 60% of a NEW one - so it is advisable to put the $$ toward a new unit with warranty. 2001 makes it 9 years old. Typically manufacturers don't support after 10 years.

Thanks!!

Microwave makes a strange humming noise when it is working - sounds like a vibration of some kind. Does not always happen. Somethings it starts once the microwave has been running for a few seconds. ...

Assuming nothing's loose (such as from past repair attempt) then it may be the magnetron failing.

Your best bet is to keep using but (as always) do not leave it unattended while it's running.

Then if things get worse in some way, that would be a harder failure that can be assessed more easily.

If you are close to the end of the warranty period (1 year parts & labor or 9-year magnetron, e.g.) I would not wait past then.

GE Customer Service is here if you would prefer service now and want to find your nearest GE-authorized servicer.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Microwave not working, please suggest

Your magnetron tube has failed. According to the warranty on the Profile Series microwave ovens, the magnetron is covered for 5 years from the date of purchase, but labor is not included. I would call GE Customer Service and when they ask for the model number (which begins with JVM) and the serial number, be sure to give the date of purchase as the date you closed on your house. If they insist upon charging you for a service call and labor, I would call my builder's Customer Service Department and demand (very nicely) that they intervene with GE to waive the service and labor charges. That worked for me (Lennar Homes).
