Question about Singer Curvy 8770 Electronic Sewing Machine

When I turn on the machine, the display is lit but doesn't display anything. It used to display the stitch width but now, nothing. The machine will not sew.

I know this will sound silly, but is your contrast dial turned to much one way?

Never touched the contrast. I can see the light in the display like always. It went from sewing a garment to not sewing the next. I'm figuring something electronic blew. The machine is 5 months old and barely sewed on. I tried turning it off and on again, re-plugging the wires...nothing. The only thing it does is beep when I turn it on. I don't hear the needle engaging anymore like it did just minutes ago when I turn it back on.

Oh, I feel so bad for you, especially since it is so new. How about calling Singer, at 1-800-4singer and see if they have an authorized service center near you. I have my fingers crossed for you. I was so hoping it was something easy. Sorry, I couldn't help you but my intentions were for real. Good luck.

Same thing just happened to my sewing machine. Where you able to find out anything about the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Elna air electronic 68, I am not able to use different function. Like thr preprogrammed.

Your AE 68 will have three dials across the front, from L-R, stitch selector, stitch width and stitch length. To sew any stitch with a sidewise needle movement, you will need to turn the stitch selector to that stitch on the selector, then turn the stitch width to between 3 and 4 and the stitch length to a similar setting, adjusting to get the stitch formation you need. To sew with the discs, set all the dials to zero, then insert a cam into the Elnagraph on top of the machine. Then turn the selector to the disc icon, and the stitch length around to the "S" and stitch width to 4.

Don't use reverse if using the elnagraph stitches.

How do I get it to sew something other than the basic straight stitch?

Your machine will have a touch screen or button to increase or decrease the stitch width. However, digital machines have to be set to the zigzag position in order for the width to take effect. On this machine the # 10 turns it on zigzag.

How do I set the stitch length and width. Have been doing as the manual said and doesn`t seem to work.

Sometimes you also need to change the foot as well for monogramming. Do check this in the manual.

How do you position the needle/ with which lever or dial? location?

Your model doesn't have a specific needle position adjustment. But you could try this - set it to the shell stitch or lingerie stitch on the stitch selector but leave the stitch width setting on zero, this may move the needle to the left most position with any luck.

Other possibility is to put it in a step of the buttonhole sequence, but again leave stitch width on zero and see if this moves the needle bar to the right or left for you.

Cannot get rid of stitch width safety get double beep

In my case the problem was an error in the User Guide.

Press SET four times so that it displays SET 4. At the bottom right of the screen, where the User Guide shows a blank area, there is a setting for the maximum stitch width. If this is set to 0.0 you can only stitch straight. Change it to the other setting, typically 6.0.

Now go to ADJUST. At the bottom of the screen, the middle control is the actual stitch width, which you can set anywhere from 0.0 to the maximum. Set it to whatever width you want for the zigzag.

I have a old Elna machine. The air electronic SU 390 B. I have lost the manual and am trying to do buttonholes on a dress. I have forgotten the sequence of nob adjustments to complete the process.

Is this the duplex model with the base that fits into a sewing cabinet?

My Elna booklet lists a SP "air electronic" duplex (CL.39), if so, then it would be same stitches as the 38, yellow front panel, 7 built in stitches and automatic knob with blue markings for buttonholing.

Here is the SU manual images for buttonholing, should be exactly the same for the SP.

tally_girl_4.jpg Instructions are:
use buttonhole foot. turn the 3 dials to buttonhole marked in blue (stitch selection, width and length).
Mark length of buttonhol on the material. Place work under foot with the mark in the middile fo the foot, the start being directly below the needle. sew the first side, raise the needle. Turn stitch width dial to 2, blue. Sew a few stitches for bartack. Raise the needle.
Turn stitch width dial to 3 blue. sew the second side. stop just short of the first side. Raise the needle.
turn the stitch width dial to 4 blue. sew a few stitches for bartack. Raise the needle.
Turn stitch width dial to "fastening off stitch" blue dot. Sew a few stitches, holding back the material by hand. Raise needle, lift pressure foot and remove work, triming off threads.
Open the buttonhole with your seam ripper (put a pin across the end to avoid any nasties).
