Question about Craftsman Garden

Open Question

I recently bought a Craftsman weed wacker 33cc full crank 4 cycle from a flea market. It came with out a spark plug and I wanted to know what kind of spark plug it takes and how to start it with a flooded tank. I believe it might be flooded from one too many presses on the choke. And if so, I would also like to know if there is a pdf or online instruction manual for this product when it comes to repairs and specifications of this piece of equipment. Lloyd M. Harper

Check the muffler for dirt dobber nest etc. This is many times the problem with all types of engines after setting for awhile. Another is to replace the plug no matter how good it looks.

Have these unit been stored with fuel in them or sitting around for a long period of time? If so the carbs may need to be overhauled. Also check for a clogged fuel filter and vacuum test the fuel lines for cracks.

Be sure fuel lines are healthy...especially any places where they bend. If you feel confident enough you can go into the carb itself and check the inlet screen which is just under the inlet needle. These are a common trouble spot.
The screen will appear to be fine at first glance, but remove it and hold it up to the light and you'll find it to be swollen completely shut!
Might as well install a kit while you're in there. It's only about 10 bucks and the amount of time and effort it costs you is the same.
NOTE: Get a "REPAIR KIT" for your carb...NOT just a diaphragm kit.
Zama carb repair kits found here.
Walbro carb repair kits found here.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: 353 husqvarna chainsaw, floods during start process

Husqvarna says the initial carburetor needle valve settings are from lightly seated 1 turn CCW for both H & L.

Your Operator's Manual can be downloaded here:
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/HOUS/HOUS2004/HOUS2004_1140204-95.pdf
Once flooded Huskys are very hard to start. This works well on my 359.
Start Procedure
Cold:

  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close - sets fast idle) pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls)
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually the next pull)
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close - sets fast idle) choke, - Don’t pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open - fast idle maintained) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
Hope this helps

What powers carburetor solenoid on a craftsman model 316.711200 weed wacker

The power source comes from the ignition module(coil), Power is stepped down internally in ignition module to something between 9v and 18v(can't remember exact voltage for sure at this time).

I don't recall seeing one on that model go bad. usually it ends up being the carburetor. Or incorrect spark plug that is the culprit(If cylinder is O.K. and you have spark).

Hope this helps.

No spark

To test the spark you will need a spark plug tester. Put one end of the tester on the spark plug and the other in the plug wire. Pull the cord and see if fire is there. If not you will need to replace the coil.
