Question about Olympus Stylus 830 Digital Camera

1 Answer

When I connect my camera through any USB port on my macbook, the transfer process will always begin fine, however the process will not complete. I get a "failed to transfer the image" error message as well as an inadvertent USB device ejection message. Is it the camera? cord? card?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

When I connect My Samsung VP-D77i Camcorder to my Laptop I always get a message saying "cant open camera device". My Laptop does not have a fire wire port but only with USB ports. It has Windows 7 Pre

First, try attaching the camcorder via usb cable with the camera OFF, then turning it on. This may trigger Windows to activate the driver scanner and activate the driver. If you've been attaching with camcorder off, try attaching with it on, to see if that activates driver installation.

If that doesn't work, you may have a low-power usb plug; often the usb ports in the back of the computer put out more juice than the handy ones on the front. You may also need a shorter and more robust usb cable; I've found with various cameras and phones that certain usb cables work fine for recharging but won't necessarily provide adequate data transfer.

You do understand that for Canon cameras, the battery does not charge while the camera is connected to the USB port? The process of actually transferring pictures with the USB cable uses the camera's battery power, and thus you will need to recharge the battery after doing a transfer. To charge, you will need to remove the battery from the camera and insert it into a charger. If you do not have a charger, here's a good generic one for your particular battery.

I have a macbook that does not have a firewire port to connect the camera to import video. Is there an adapter for usb?

Unfortunately, even if there were a USB adapter, the USB port would not be able to keep-up with the data transfer speeds of the DV-Out over firewire from the camcorder.
Sorry for the bad news. I wish that I could have provided better news.
Thanks for using FixYa and Happy New Year.

How shall i transfer pictures from my camera to the macbook pro with the memory card?

The simplest way would be to buy a universal card reader with a USB 2.0 interface that supports your camera's memory card. It would plug into the macbook's usb port and you can drag and drop. These can be had for less than $20.

I want to capture video from DS65 to my laptop through USB

Hi,
To transfer video from your camcorder to your computer you will need a firewire cable (IEEE 1394). Only with this cable you will be able to transfer video.

Please note that you will also need a firewire port on your computer. if you don't have one then you can buy a firewire PCI card from your local copmuter shop.

After you have installed your firewire port and connected your camera, you will need a video processing system. Windows Movie Maker is on Windows XP and it comes for free. Run it, and click on capture to begin the transfer of your video to your laptop.

Please see the following link for more info and pictures on firewire cables and ports.

you just mite have no more room on your macbook. if you do then it also could be that the files are protected or cant be read by the system. try to open up the files on your memory stick and copy and past or drag and drop see if that dose any different effect.

What cable do I use to connect my Canon ZR800 to my MacBook Pro 13" to download the video? Thank you.

It is your USB cable you will use to transfer your videos from your camera. Connect your camera to your computer. Play the video. As the video begins to play you will select “capture” from the menu (depending on the application you are using to playback the video). Adobe Premiere and Ulead Visual Studio are very good for capturing/downloading videos from camera. The fact is video editing applications are perfect for capturing. Please note Downloading videos from camera is always achievable only by “capturing” and to capture a video you must play it back. You cannot download videos like mp3s by simply copying.

If you can't find such on your machine, then it's either disabled, the BIOS is out of date, the OS doesn't support your USB (Examples abound!) or other. I cut my time loss by adding an USB PCI card.

General USB Troubleshooting

While USB connections are significantly faster and easier to set up than older serial or SCSI connections they are not foolproof. Here are some tips: Be sure to connect the cable properly One side of the cable is "keyed" so it will only fit properly one way. Do not force it in if it does not smoothly connect. Notice how the USB plug is "keyed" and will only fit properly in one direction. The USB connector on the back of the computer. Connect directly to a USB port on the computer. While USB hubs allow many devices to connect to a computer they are not always reliable for high-speed connections like digital cameras. Connect to a port on the back of the computer. Many computers have extra USB ports on the front or on the keyboard. These are generally built-in hubs which may cause problems as described above. Connect to an AC adapter or use a freshly charged battery To prevent problems during transfer be sure that the camera has enough power to complete image transfers. Remove other devices To troubleshoot problems, remove any other USB devices and connect just the Nikon product for testing.
