Question about Mitsubishi WD-52628 52" Projection HDTV

1 Answer

My 52628 has a dark picture. Like the brightness is set at 30% but it is at 90. Do you have any idea what to look for. The repair shop wants to make a service call and has no idea what it is. I would info so I know if they are being honest with me.

Ask the shop (if they have information from the Mitsubishi site) if this set has one mirror or two.

Some models had a second small mirror at the bottom and it gets covered with dust etc and the picture is dark.

If it does have the small mirror there is a way to get at it and simply clean it, if they tell you they do not know, find someone else.

Could be your backlights are bad. Don't know how old your set is. May check your backlight setting up and down to see if it changes the brightness. Not a cheap fix at repair shop. You can order online and change yourself with the help of you tube videos.

This is no solution but a point in a probable direction.

A tech guy told me ALL the LCDs they have seen in their repair shop have "swollen" capacitors, this is due to voltage instability. Lowering the internal voltage regulator and replacing the swollen capacitors (which eliminate noise) apparently restores the LCD to new working quality. Without actually "seeing" my problem the tech said that should repair it. I have not tried this yet but eventually will begin that way.

PS2 Picture Problem

Hi MG86,

Most PS2 games are dark and auto brightness controls will casue your LCD tv to brighten up automatically in response the dark video coming from PS2 games. I suggest you get into the menu settings of your TV and find a setting that will shut off the auto picture controls.

Hello Suzid, It looks to me like you have a possible power supply issue (poor brightness on screen, shrinking of the picture, and initially no picture) This problem may put you in danger of electrical shock, so I would suggest that you not try to repair this set yourself. I would suggest that you take the television to a television repair shop. The power supply issue could be a low power or a high power supply problem.

I think you have a regulation problem and all the voltage supplies are lower than what they should be,the fact that the picture gets distorted is one thing it lead me to believe that is the problem. This can be caused by a loose conection in the power supply ,I would suggest not to use it until it gets repaired or it might become worst and more expensive.Be careful if you remove the back and try to repair it yourself.
