Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

1 Answer

Our work e-machine will boot to just past the bios screen and can even make it to the "unexpected shut down" screen that lets me choose to start in Safe Mode, but then will immediately shut down. I have cleaned the case out and checked the connections. The only thing I can figure it to be is the HDD. Feels like the drive is spinning but can't seem to make it to the OS screen. Any Ideas?

Boot into safe mode. From another computer download malwarebytes free version. www.malwarebytes.org
Save to usb it will show up as MBAM.exe
Rename MBAM.exe to winlogon.exe.
Boot to safe mode, send winlogon.exe to desktop (create shortcut)
Install, update, and run full scan. delete everything it finds.
Hope it helps

Power button not working

You didn't say Windows what? makes a big difference you gotta know. Have you tried a safe mode start up by tapping F8 a few times key right after Bios screen blanks & before Win. screen appears. Once in the boot menu choose safe mode. Let it boot then try decreasing the video settings & restart. if that"s not the fix restart in SM & uninstall video driver. It should reinstall a working driver on next start up.

Gateway MT6840 unexpectedly shut down and wouldn't

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Insert smart card into reader problem

I think its looking for a boot command from the card reader. Which means pressing the DEL or F10 or F2 key repeatedly while booting to get into your bios to change your boot order.

If it wont let you, try booting while pressing the F8 key, with luck it may bring up windows boot options, choose the safe mode. When up, Click on Start - all programmes - accessories - system tools - system restore - choose a date prior to problems. (This is for XP, Vista and Win7 slightly different)

Boot from your windows disk, and choose the repair option.

Or download, UBCD4Win , the ultimate boot cd for windows, This will load a windows shell system with loads of diagnotic and repair tools.

You could download and run Ubuntu without installing, that will give you access to any data files.

If none of this works, the only recourse is to re-install windows. But in
doing this, you will be re-formatting the hard drive which will remove all data on the drive.

If you don't have a copy of windows, you do have Ubuntu. I use it nearly all the time now, even though I have a dual boot system.

The system was turned off as usual yestrdat but then today this message appears on the screen as i switch it on.. ''We apologize for the iconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent...

first choose the last good config ...and press enter ...if the pc do not boot ...insert the windows xp disk ...and let it restore..
do not boot from the disk yet cause it might remove your data from the C partition..
sometimes does that when something goes wrong or a power out its shuts it improper
at last ...if it does not wants to get alive ....ya will have to reinstall it ...but first boot from cd ...and at first repair ....choose the comand : fixboot
as a last solution ...get the hard disk hook it to another computer ...save the files you need...and reinstall the operation system..
also ..if you boot from cd ...and let it run but do not format and choose repair the operation system but when it will ask ya second time ...after it already found the previous OS installed...if you choose repair know ...it will replace the system files but leave the others as they are ...so...the issue is to get it alive without loosing data ...as long as you wil not format the partition ...it will save the files ...you will find them somewhere on the C partition ...documents and settings ...
another thing ya might try is to restart after remove the bios battery and make it forget any things that might get wrong ...it will ask ya to set the time and data in the bios ...but ya can just leave them be and set them after you booted ok ..

Windows shut down unexpectedly, and when I rebooted, I had lost all my icons, and start tool bar. How to get them back?

  1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
  2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
  3. Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. To Repair Install, press ENTER
    note.gifTo Repair Install, press ENTER
\r\n'); FP_changeProp(/*id*/'layer1',0,'style.borderStyle','double','style.borderWidth','3px','style.padding','5px','style.backgroundColor','#F9F4D5','style.backgroundImage','url(\'edgbkgnd4.gif\')'); FP_changeProp(/*id*/'layer1',0,'style.visibility','visible')" onclick="FP_changeProp(/*id*/'layer1',0,'style.visibility','hidden')" width="15" border="0" height="21" /> do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".
  4. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
  5. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, END setup. After the reboot read
  6. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.take care god bless

Opened my lap top HP dv9000 black screen sounded like it was running, I shut down then tried to reboot, starts to reboot then cuts off then tries to reboot and continues this cycle

Try starting the laptop in safe mode.
This is done by pressing F8 while the computer is starting. You will be presented with an option screen and should in the first instance choose safe mode. If the laptop boots you can then check the hardware for faults. If you are not getting past the initial bios boot screen it would be worthwhile downloading the latest bios firmware from the HP web site and installing this.

Unexpected shut down of my HP563w

It might be a thermal shutdown. If the computer is more than 6 months old, this is what I expect it to be. Try leaving your case's side panel open after checking for dust buildup.

Alternatively, it might be simply unstable. This usually doesn't happen for prebuilt machines, but it can happen. While the computer is booting, enter the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) by pressing the button at the first screen you see. It should say ''Press X button to enter BIOS''. The button is usually Delete, but can be something else like F12. Once you are in the BIOS, choose the option that suggests a return to default settings. This will let the PC automatically bring back all settings to what they should be and usually makes sure it's not unstable.

Lastly, it can be a software problem. Try booting into Safe Mode instead and see how long the PC stays on. If it stays on indefinitely then it is a virus or software problem. Either put an anti-virus program on a USB key and quickly have it scan for problems, or reinstall the operating system to fix a possible bug.

Won't boot up.

You have a virus that is about to shut down the hole computer to where you can't even get on it. I would tell you just to reinstall windows to fix it 99% of the time that is the fix.
