This is not a common problem but it is not an unusual one either. Problem can be as simple as a spelling error. You are looking for Smith st but it is spelled Smithe st. It could also be that it is s newer street and you gps has not been updated yet with the new street. One final thing, I am one of those people that has a hard time using anything with a touch pad. I can spend a long time trying to spell out names and keep getting the wrong one because the machine thought i was looking for w when i was actually looking for an l. Go figure. Try making sure the spelling is right and if you have problems with the screen try a stylus for poking at the screen, this might work for you. Hope this helps. Also one final thing clean the screen this sometimes help.
When you want to spell a name, you will be presented with what looks like a QWERTY keyboard. The space key is in the lower right corner, to the right of the letter M. By default, the first letter of each word will be capitalized, but this doesn't matter for your street name search. If you need punctuation, touch the &?% button to change modes.
It searches the database for street names. keep typing your street name until it is the only one availiable. If it cannot find your street, then either: you are spelling it wrong, you have the wrong city/state or the street is newer than the database
I'm assuming you have the right map installed.Make sure you type in the right city (town/village). Make sure you are spelling the street name correctly.
If your street has been there for more than a year then it may be a map error. Try browsing the map in the area where you live to see if you you can find your street and see how it is spelt. It may be spelt incorrectly on the map. You can correct an incorrect spelling. See the manual for map corrections.
Newer streets may not be included on your current map. You may have to wait for an update or you can buy an update or you can use the map corrections to add your street. See the manual. HTH Peter
The Garmin may not recognize the street name you are entering due to a scroll error. When you type, it constantly looks up streets beginning with the letters you already entered. If you happen to hit a wrong letter, it automatically errors out. Have you updated the unit recently? If not try that first.
Load USB drivers to PC (if not done already), connect Garmin, turn Garmin on, run webupdater, follow on screen prompts.
my garmin 340 use to mention the street name, now it just tell me to "make a left" " or " a right" without naming the street as it used to do. How do I get it back to mentioning the street direction.? Thank youy
